I'm old.
Just thought I'd mention it. With another birthday soon, I'll officially be even older.
You're not getting any younger, by the way. |
Are you ok?
|
I'm ok. Are you okay?
I'm just old is all. I thought I'd beat everyone to the punch since the fact of my oldness is brought up on occasion. |
I also have a vastly receding hairline. Recently, however, I've let my hair grow out from a buzz cut to a combable length, and I have to say, it doesn't look all that bad. The trick though is to keep it trimmed enough so that it doesn't look like a comb over.
When I met my wife, my hair was thick and long. People used to kid me that I looked like Jim Morrison. These days I'm more on the order of Charlie Watts (present day). |
Don't worry, baby, I will protect you from the hooded claw and keep the vampires from your door.

My boss told me the same about when you're after 30.
I don't care, though. He's a prick. |
50 is the new 30. That's what I've heard.

Yeah, there is that! Poor Jim... |
Women are in their prime in their 30s, or so I'm told. Men reach their peak at like 18 or so. It's a cruel cosmic trick.
|
Depends. All the men of my age that I know are even more spirited than when they were in their 20's. I prefer myself more now that I'm 33, rather than in my 20's. I dunno, I never really think about my age that much, so I never have the time to get depressed about it. Try botox.

A Very merry UnBirthday to you
gmku. If you sing that in time with the song in Alice in Wonderland it works, in a way. Dont worry, im in my early 20s and your hair is probably in better order than mine. |

Yes. His name starts with letter S and finishes with the letter V.

do you guys "feel older" when you're alone or when you're out with friends and stuff?
|
When I'm out with friends and stuff. Because I generally have to conform to their ideas of "age appropriate" activities and tastes. My peers have much tamer ideas about what's appropriate to listen to, watch, read, talk about. They're boring and old. Fortunately, though, we have one or two younger friends that we do things with, and I feel that my wife and I both have much more in common with them than we do with people our age. It's mostly attitude--our younger friends are more open-minded and interested in a wider range of things and ideas.
|
Only in relation to some of my mates who are, say, 9/10 years younger than myself. But even then it would have to be about something that seems like a big deal to them and not worth losing any sleep for me. It's not the sort of feeling that stays for long, though. To be honest a lot of people in their 30's seem to find it difficult to mature without turning into old mongrels.
|
That's true. It's like a lot of 30-somethings struggle with the reality of getting old, and the only way they can deal with it is by becoming more closed minded. I remember a lot of my 30-something friends sort of digging in, trying to hang on to the things of their youth, and in the process, they lost touch with "current" things. Music is the obvious example, but I think it applies to other things.
