...

This is a startling achievement on two discs (that could easily fit onto one disc, actually) of one of the best bands ever. Take any of your post-rock or "New Weird America" bands and throw them out the window: This is the real deal. Actually, the press release for this pretty much sums it up: "A monumental accomplishment spanning two discs, Mr. Boy Dog is the flawless synthesis of the many sides of this indescribable six-piece from Portland, ME. This epic album further blurs the lines between avant rock, jazz, ambient, Middle Eastern and Russian folk, and Gamelan-inspired counterpoint. And it does so with seemingly effortless ease. Recorded over a two-year period, the album marks a noticeable departure in sound and color, while maintaining their trademark textures and attention to detail. From the opening explosive bursts of Coltrane-inspired free jazz on "Round Valley" to the Can-style rock hooks of "Stumblin' Block" and on through the tidal noisescapes of "An Egypt That Does Not Exist," you are held breathless from start to finish. Thankfully the band is considerate enough to let you come up for air between discs."

Very true. Anyway, I urge you all to listen to this. A classic!
