So my band is opening up for Blue Cheer next week
I haven't really heard that much of them. Has anybody seen them play before?
i don't know blue cheer but i do know blue oyster cult. your band should try to open up for them instead.
co-sign on that....... DON'T FEAR THE REAPER!
i heard before they play godzilla they play noises of godzilla and a huge godzilla comes out of the stage breathing fire.
if that's not a reason to open for them than nothing is. |
I think Blue Cheer were a prog - hard - rock band that became an influence on heavy metal.
sounds like a after school high school drama
Sweet. I hope you enjoy it.
never mind, i heard of blue cheer. i just didn't think you meant THAT blue cheer.
i'm surprised very few people have heard blue cheer here!
anyway, congratulations man. or are you opening for blue sabbath black cheer? |
I saw blue cheer last night in okc. they are a late sixties band, widely regarded as precursors to stoner rock. or so I have been told. they were quite good, actually. they rocked - way harder than dudes my dads age should. I mean, they are old, man. I had been forewared that the band was impossibly loud, so I purchased earplugs, but it was not as bad as feared, and they did not require the plugs. thanks to dad. Opening for them is good, I must say. they are historically quite important, and much more importantly, they are really old and they rock pretty hard.

can everyone do themselves a favor and go listen to their album vincebus eruptum? by the end of it, you'll be asking yourselves "iggy what? mc-who? what boys? whonny thunders?"

I am taking your advice. I am more than curious after seeing them. |
blue cheer are/were a psychedelic sort of band that came from san francisco in the 60s named after a particular variety of acid created by owsley. they're actually quite good, their song summertime blues is fantastic especially as far as the guitar work is concerned. great that youre opening up for them!
I saw them live last easter and they are fucking a force when they play. They've still got it and I remember them being so loud it knocked the ear plugs out of my ears. You guys are lucky as fuck to open for them.
Do they still have long hair? Or are they a bunch of old baldies?
there is plenty of hair on blue cheer, well done John Violence.

So I did some homework on them and they are pretty cool. I don't know about Iggy who, but vincebus eruptum is pretty damn good. I'm really looking foward to the 6th. |
You're real lucky, John Violence. Blue Cheer are an important and underrated band, they are precursors of Stoner and, what's more, a huge influence on the hard-psych bands. Bands like High Rise, Comets on Fire or Les Rallizés Denudes have been influenced by them. Their live set is said to be the loudest in the 60's.
In the grunge era bands like Mudhoney reivindicated them also. Even some people call them as the first heavy metal act. Check out specially their albums Vincebus Eruptum (their most famous) and Outside/Inside (which is even better than Vincebus, in my opinion). I haven't heard much of the other stuff they released after but It's deffinitely much worse since it lacked what made them great in those two albums. |
