Recommend me some Latin American music!
Alright, I'm guessing we have at least a few people of Latino origin on here and you're going to be the best-qualified to help me out with this.
My girl's always complaining that she misses the music from back home (S. America) but then she didn't know much about it other than what she heard at parties and on the radio. I'm wondering if any of you can show me the sort of thing she might be into. I'm a pro when it comes to '60s psychedelia, '70s krautrock or '80s indie. This, though... I have NO idea... Help! |
Do you just mean Latin America or also South America?

IF you want good Brazilian music, PM RdTv, he can hook you up.
|
Hector Lavoe
Willie Colon Ruben Blades Ismael Rivera Frankie Ruiz El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico All play great salsa. |
If you want to hear a great quatro player check out Yomo Toro. the Quatro is a small guitar similar to a 12 string but this intrument holds 8 strings. If you would like to hear latin folk check for Ali Primera out of Venezuela the guy is a beast, may he rest in peace.

If you want good rock/psyche/funk/bossa nova then get some:
Milton Nascimento Novos Baianos Os Mutantes Edu Lobo Caetano Veloso Jorge Ben Tim Maia Chico Buarque Gilberto Gil Gal Costa Rita Lee Tom Ze Baden Powell All these people make great music, but the majority of it came out between '65 and '75. |
Chavela Vargas and Lila Downs are great if you like Latino blues, a la Billie Holliday.
