What do you subscribe to?
Hello all,
I'm thinking of sorting out a couple of subscriptions to magazines/journals, specifically contemporary art/music/culture/political periodicals but i'm not too fussy, and I need some ideas. What do people on here subscribe to? t |
I used to subscribe to The Wire, but I let it lapse because I'd find that some issues there would be nothing at all in there that interested me. You get some good CDs though.
I've also allowed my subscription to Rock-A-Rolla (http://www.rock-a-rolla.com/) to lapse, but if you're into "avant-rock, metal, noise and experimental sounds" (their phrase - I call it "Ipecac-type stuff") that's pretty good. Cover stars so far have been Khanate, Jesu, Melvins, Subtle, Mike Patton, Sunn0))) - twice, Wolf Eyes, Dalek, Battles, Dillinger Escape Plan. |
The only thing I have a subscription for in the Ptolemaic Terrascope, but they haven't put out a new issue in about 4 years, so I wouldn't recommend taking one out yourself.

netflix.
you dont have than in france do you? how about this but is it la merde? cos netflix actually has a great selection. i tried the wire for a year. i almost died of envy. oh! i get arthur too. what else. a bunch of business things. oh. do you get this? my god, it appears puke-worthy. best wishes. i don't really know. |
subscriptions are expensive.
|
But they're still cheaper than buying every issue from the newsagent. And you get to receive something nice in the post every month (in addition to the fortnightly pile of CDs :))

they beat paying retail. |
i like to get printed matter from local record stores and artsy cafés, they usually give away interesting local stuff and you can read/get second hand editions like the wire etc.
the dentist is good to steal old pink press magazines |

Yes but you don't necessarily want to buy every single issue. I don't have any subscriptions at the moment. Our school library has quite many magazines, which would be difficult and / or expensive to subscribe. Also with internet these days, a lot of the same stuff is online anyway. |
thanks for all the ideas - i'd forgot about the WIRE, i will look into that.
ARTHUR looks quite interesting as well. shame about the USA netflix - looks fantastic though i'm sure there is a similar service in the UK. i will look into it. !@#$%! - incidently, though probably a francophile, (especially with france being a 6.5 mile swim away,) i'm well & truly british (Îles de la Manche) Thanks again! |

CP certainly has some great titles, it's a good system, and it's very cheap. i think i'll take out a sub to that later tonight. thanks! |
