i have to say though that for all of putin's totalitarian crapola, russia is at least in better shape than in the 90s when crazy capitalism without a judicial framework put her in the hands of oligarchs and the mafia. it was a joke of a country and they couldn't even pay the people who guarded the nuclear silos. yes a lot of their new found fortune has to do with the price of oil, but i think also with the restoration of social order. and while i do not endorse their horribly authoritarian social order, i think in some way it's better than a society where organized crime trumps the govenment. hopefully they can liberalize their society in a gradual and more rational manner in years to come.

I hate this Putin fuck. ex-hea dof KGB, he started by consolidating the entire energy resources of russia again under the control of the government, then he started coercing journalists and shutting down independent newspapers and radio stations, and now he has handed power to some fucking lackey and chosen to create a new position that essentially makes him eperor of russia. fucking shit. we do NOTHING

Instead, while Russia develops a massive weapons agneda once again, and putin does what he wants killing dissidents and jailing opposition people, we fight this RED HERRING war in Iraq, so the entire world has to focus upon one middle eastern country instead of seeing how dangerous and completely terrible the Russia situation is right now.
