Heliotrope 5, Ritz Theater, Mpls MN, 15-17 May 2008

The Ritz Theater

345 13th Ave NE Minneapolis

Heliotrope, Flaneur Productions' annual three-day exhibition of contemporary underground music, is back for its fifth year this May. Last year's switch to the Ritz Theater in Northeast Minneapolis was a big step forward for the festival, and we are proud to return to the Ritz this year, once again on Art-A-Whirl weekend. The festival will take place on the 15th, 16th and 17th of May, and promises to be as intriguing as ever this year. We have made an exception to our once-steadfast "all-local" rule this year with an appearance from the great Tokyo modern psych outfit Suishou No Fune, who blew our minds and eardrums when they swung through town last year. A healthy injection of new blood and some lynchpin acts from previous years should make this year's fest one of the best to date.

Confirmed acts so far:

Skoal Kodiak
Vampire Hands
Milo Fine
Kontrol Panel
Thunderbolt Pagoda
The Pins
International Novelty Gamelan
Paul Metzger and Davu Seru
Voyager
Knife World
Build My Gallows High
To Kill a Petty Bourgeoisie
Sean Connaughty and Jason Kesselring
Suishou No Fune
Jesse Petersen
White Map
Sarah Johnson
Tender Meat
Gay Beast
Daughters of the Sun

Complete schedules for each day will be posted as soon as everything is solid, which should be soon.

This is worth a trip from OKC, you know.
It will even be warm outside.

I might have to go if it's all ages. I'll bring my adult beverage friendly ID as well.

Also added to the bill are the great Alexandra St-Germain and a trio featuring Charles Gillett, Jaron Childs and Davu Seru. CHOUT 03.27.2008 09:47 PM

will i be going?

Savage Clone 05.01.2008 11:37 PM

I'm getting pretty excited now.
We should have our record done in time for this, even.

Bicorn Halfelven 05.01.2008 11:43 PM

What band/s are you in, Clone? I am probably going to be attending all three nights/days, due to acts I want to see being scheduled each day. It'd be weird meeting you in meat life.

Savage Clone 05.01.2008 11:44 PM

Cool to hear you're coming. Thanks in advance.
I'm in Thunderbolt Pagoda, and our drummer is also in Build My Gallows High. Say hi for sure.
Oh, and Kegmama:
I'll put up some kind of appropriately whorish announcement when the LPs are ready. We still have to do the poster insert.

Savage Clone 05.03.2008 07:08 PM

We've started rotating tracks from festival participants, and the rotations will be ongoing as people give us tracks to upload...

krastian 05.05.2008 10:27 AM

^Dude, that song you guys have up there rules.

Savage Clone 05.05.2008 02:24 PM

Thanks very much.
The studio version is a lot better, but we're being all precious about it until the LP comes out...
I think the Pins track is awesome; they haven't released an album for a really long time, and during that time they have reached new levels of kicking ass.

Savage Clone 05.06.2008 05:16 PM

I took down the Thunderbolt Pagoda track and put up a new one by To Kill A Petty Bourgeoisie and one from Kontrol Panel.
Rotations will keep on rotating.

Savage Clone 05.08.2008 09:21 PM

New additions from Vampire Hands and International Novelty Gamelan up now. That track by To Kill A Petty Bourgeoisie is still killing me.
