song the most in stereo

hello all!

when you listen to jimi hendrix "purple haze" you clearly hear that it's in stereo. the sound is separated between right and left. see http://www.deezer.com/track/1463 and you'll check.

Sonic youth 's song "100%" begins right ear and then left ear.

So could you give in this thread the song that uses the more the stereo.

atsonicpark 03.30.2008 09:15 AM

huh?

Almost every song ever recorded?!

racehorse 03.30.2008 09:24 AM

haha, is this poster serious?

You mean like The Gift(Velvet Underground), where the vocals are mixed to left and the instrumentation to the right?

frades 03.30.2008 10:36 AM

yes, that's one and it could be the answer to the question as it is totally separated between left and right. but I really find it hard to listen.

please listen to the beginning of "androgynous mind" (http://www.deezer.com/track/162037) there's a guitar left and one another right and the thusrston's voice is center all along the song.
there are surely plenty more but I can't find them that's why I ask this question

In fact my question comes from a wikipedia article that says that there can be put an obstacle between the two microphones of the stereo recording to simulate the way the skull hears.
if there wasn't any artefact it would be impossible to have sound only in one side.

mixing you can do whatever you want.
I guess that's true only when you record stuff live with a stereo mic?
I mean, I'm not really sure I get what you meant...

The term we're looking for here is "panning". You can "pan" one track of a multi track recording more to the left or to the right. It's very usefull in making stuff sound less crowded, I've found.

king_buzzo 03.30.2008 03:44 PM

that queen song is really funny where he goes like 'im here, im there' and it keeps panning.

nothing can be more stereo than something else. stereo is stero and that is that.

and atsonicpark - what about the first 70 odd years of recorded music prior to the discovery of stero??? no not nearly every song is recorded in stereo.

Try 'Exploding Head Movie' by Stereolab through headphones, it's a mind-fuck!

fluxequalsrad 03.30.2008 03:54 PM

dude...Like literally 95% of music is in stereo, why is it so difficult for people to hear? Shit is panned left /right all the time. Almost every SY song has it.

This is true, but it's more noticible when the panning changes during the song.
