Most of the Star Trek films (the first six) are pretty good.
With the fifth being unintentionally hilarious. |

My all time favorite is The Man Who Fell to Earth
next after that is Brazil Runner up is A Scanner Darkly Also great: 2001 A Space Odyssey A Clockwork Orange Dr. Strangelove Liquid Sky Planet of the Apes (of course the original) Beneath the Planet of the Apes Zardoz Soylent Green Stalker Solaris (The Tarkovsky one, though still not as good as the book by far) Screamers (maybe more not bad than great, but not bad anyway...) Metropolis Aelita Queen of Mars (a Soviet silent movie based on a Tolstoy story that actually predates Metropolis!) Serenity The Gladiators/Gladiatorerna (Swedish anti-war futurist movie from the '60s) Aeon Flux Forbidden Planet The Day the Earth Stood Still 1984 Logan's Run The Quiet Earth 2046 (a stretch here, but there is a SF story in it...) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind On the Beach The Thing (from Another World) (that's the original!) Gojira (the original Japanese Godzilla) Robot Stories King Kong (Jackson's version and the original) Alphaville Night of the Living Dead Dawn of the Dead Silent Running Star Wars I like but find overrated: Blade Runner Matrix The Empire Strikes Back I just find overrated: Alien All other Star Wars (even the Phantom Menace is overrated when people say it sucks!) |

i forgot about the man who fell to earth! |

that's a good one. |
i also think blade runner is overrated

I mostly liked the first Matrix, up until the point where Neo was flying around like superman at the end. Basically, he discovers he can rewrite the code of the matrix and uses that ability to FLY? You'd think he'd get more use out of that power. But, then I guess they couldn't've had seqels if he did...
I liked Blade Runner. The Director's Cut. Not the one the studio released first, with the half-assed voiceovers, and the ending that made no sense (where did all this wilderness come from? why is everyone in this overcrowded apocalyptic hellhole if they can just escape into the countryside?). And the fact that the unicorn dream was left out makes the origami guy make no sense. I also kind of find it funny that Blade Runner, an adaptation of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, left out all the elements DADoES inherited from the short story on which it was originally based (The Little Black Box)... |
Dark Star

There is a certain element of cheese to Blade Runner. But there is a certain amount of cheese to Alphaville as well. I think it is unavoidable when making sci-fi film noirs.
|
nobody's mentioned Dark City yet... which is a sci-fi noir that i really liked
|
Dark City's alright.
Kiefer is a bit cheese in it thoough ;) |
