Favorite Stand-Up Comedians?
George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy, Dane Cook, Zack Galafinakis, David Cross, Sam Kinison, Bill Cosby, Jerry Sienfeld, Lewis Black, Denis Leary, Brian Posiene, Patton Oswalt, Steve Martin....
Anyway, I have many more favorites, but I just wanted to know who your favorites are. I think that stand-up comedy has influenced me in a way like no other. It definately has gotten me through hard times. So, who's your fave? ================================= I would have made a poll, but there are too many to exclude. |
clasic ones:
george carlin richard pryor -- chris rock, haven't seen /heard much of his stuff, but what i saw was hilarious. i don't know who else. denis leary is ok. funny but not mind-blowing funny. robin williams i find kind of painful actually. oh, and the sight of denis miller makes me want to puke bile and curse his mother for giving birth to such a shit. |
Black Gallagher

I'm not a big fan of stand-up, but I like Rich Hall, Dave Gorman, Mark Thomas and Tim Vine.
There are a lot of stand-up comedians whom I'm not bothered about, but who I think are very funny when they are doing interviews or quiz show appearances. The funniest people on British TV aren't really comedians. |
Hmm, I think i like Mitch Hedberg. I haven't seen any of his stuff in awhile but i used to think he was funny.

Richard Lewis
George Carlin Steven Wright Eddie Izzard Jerry Seinfeld Larry Miller Andy Kaufman Denis Leary |
Zach Galifianakis is one of my favorites, but he rarely makes me laugh. He's just a very likeable comedian. He's funnier in writing.
Anthony Jeselnik is hystarical. You sould be able to find him on YouTube; he's pretty new. Mitch Fatel has a really interesting style. Pablo Fransisco was funny the first few times. I don't like him anymore, but if you've never seen him he's good. Mitch Hedberg is definitely great. I remember once he was on Conan, and they cut to a different angle for a second. He said something like, "Hey wait, what was that? What was that camera angle, where you saw my feet? Ya that. Don't ever do that again." Classic. Andy Samberg is good but he doesn't do stand-up anymore because of SNL. TheLonelyIsland.com has some of the funniest amateur films in existance. They're now the makers of the SNL Digital Shorts. |
Richard Pryor
Eddie Murphy Chris Rock George Carlin Lenny Bruce Andy Kaufman Sam Kinison Lewis Black Red Foxx Richard Lewis Patton Oswalt Dave Chapelle |

Of course, Lenny Bruce. I'm an idiot forgetting him. I've been hearing alot about Bill Hicks. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to start w/ his material? |

YouTube always has stand-up. That's all I use it for.
Chappelle was the show to watch my junior year in high school. It's really all I remember about that entire year. |
Dave Chappelle, definately another ALL-TIME great comedian!
|
Dave Chappelle is ace.

I really like Bruce Bruce, & Earthquake.
(just thought I'd get all comicview on ya') |
My favorite of all time is Bill Burr. Watching him was the only time I have ever cried of laughter watching stand up.
|
Some great listings:
Richard Lewis Redd Foxx Mitch Hedberg Chris Rock Larry Miller & let us not forget, Cheech & Chong did live acts as well. Not really stand-up as much as live skits, but I still love it. |
redd foxx is fucking great, any aspiring stand up needs to study him to learn about TIMING.
roseanne barr is still the best female stand up i've ever seen. margaret cho still a distant second. lewis black, mitch hedburg, george carlin ("have you ever noticed that most of the women that are against abortion are women you wouldn't wanna fuck in the first place?"), sam kinison, i'm gonna go way out on a limb and admit that paula poundstone had a couple televised shows i liked. uh...steven wright too. |
Hell yes, Steven Wright!
