PC vs. Mac
I vote PC. Discuss.
|
I vote "white power"
|
Mac all the way.
|
I don't like using Macs
|
ha ha ha. for a moment i thought this was the "original" (not crispy) and i cringed.
i vote pc of course for the availability of hardware and software. i blame mac for the refusal to license its software to other manufacturers. but then apple sees itself as a hardware company. which means that mac will soon be running windows :p |
I don't like things with a lot of propietary technology. PCs > Macs.
|
Macs are beautiful, PCs are useful...
|
I think Macs are better computers, but I'm so used to PCs that I don't care. PCs.
|
Heard. You have to realize that with PC you are usually dealing with Microsoft Windows, which is probably the worst OS I could have used in my life. From version 3.0 to XP, it doesn't even begin to comapre with the function, flow and ease of ANY Mac OS, especially Tiger. Granted you need time to acclimate to the new interface and shortcuts, but once you do it is non regretable.

What made me think of this thread is this commercial:
![]() John Hodgman is a PC. The other guy (Justin Long) is a Mac. This slighlty irritates me because I like John Hodgman--he wrote The Areas Of My Expertise, which is a very funny book. It inspired my love of hoboes and all hobo matters. He is the guy reciting the 700 hobo names. He appears on the Daily Show often--a favorite show of hipsters and high college students. Unfortunatly, Apple is using him in these insulting ads. Of course, he hasn't been coerced into doing them. He probably likes Macs and also likes getting paid. I have no problem with this. But the message is this: PCs are for dorky, older dudes and Macs are for young hip fellas. Same tactic used by Pepsi and countless others. I'm not irritated with Hodgman, just with Apple. But what the fuck do I know, they're selling millions of iPods and I'm not. And there's some truth in what they're getting at, but the over-simplification is a little irritating. Just venting. |
I dislike those commercials as well, but for more superficial reasons. They both looked familiar and I could never figure out who they were.
|
I've grown up on PCs all my life, mainly because my Dad worked for intel for over 20 years. But after using macs here and there, I still think PCs are better. And I'm tired of all the stupid Apple commercials (macs, ipods, etc). Yeah, we get it. If you want to be cool and hip, buy apple shit...whatever. I refuse to own anything apple-related now just because they piss me off and theyre trying too hard to be pop culture icons.

yeah windows has sucked in the past but with xp pro i think they are doing great. ive never had any problems with this OS. windows 2000 actually was my first "solid" windows OS but loading drivers was a pain.
besides, you can load all sorts of flavors of linux on a pc. it won't shit its pants. you can multi-boot to your heart's content. |
we have macs at school, i hate it
|
I like PCs better because for me, my computer is Legos. Lots of little parts you put together and then turn on to see if it works. I built my PC and it evolves over time--I replace part after part and every few years it's a completely new PC. Like your skin. XP never fucks up for me--never had it crash. I've had lots of other problems, mostly hardware. But it's fun to figure out what part needs replacing--I buy a new one and problem fixed. Most of the games I like don't come out for Mac either. Big problem.
Macs are great though for certain things. Musicians swear by them--most labs in music schools use Macs for Finale or whatever and most musicians use Macs for recording and editing, right? Terminal Pharmacy probably loves Macs. |
Yes, the games thing is an issue. My old PC crashed all the time, but my new one, which I've had for over a year now, has frozen maybe 3 times and that's it. It's pretty flawless, so far. I have no complaints.
Also, you close Mac windows on the left. That's just ridiculous. |
I'm throwing in the thought that computer viruses/spyware are virtually unheard of on macs. I have antivirus scan software on my mac, but it's utterly useless: in five years I haven't once had a virus alert (or problem for that matter). I urge you to reconsider the benefits of mac usage. Then again, I urge you not to reconsider (because the more mac users we get out here, the more likely 'hackers' are going to want to write viruses for them).

I think macs are fine, but I have to say PC because I have never owned one.
I like those new Mac commercials. |
Macs really are beautiful, they're designed from the ground up to be works of art, mass-produced, consumer works of art; but works of art nonetheless. PCs have nothing of this sort of consideration. But they tend to be used more, because of the cheaper components, the ability to customize; and the fact that if you screw one up, you just get another one; whereas if you screw up your Mac, it feels like you just lost a friend... I have owned both; and this is usually the consensus.
|
I like a lot of things about Mac but they still are inferior to PCs.
