Record Store Day !!!

In order to support the decline of independent record stores across North America they're having a big celebration today where your local record store will be selling exclusive songs not available at best buy or those big chains and have little events at participating stores.

yay?

if i had a good record store and money, i'd support.

there's going to be a merch table and they have a silvester anfang cd i have been looking for but $200 pesos? screw them!

DeadDiscoDildo 04.19.2008 02:41 PM

oh we have shake it in cincy, that's a really good place I might stop by

marleypumpkin 04.19.2008 03:39 PM

I have a couple of small locally owned record stores in my area, I would go down & support them today, but alas, all my funds are all going torwards something or other.

Which is odd, I'm usually one to always keep feeding my vinyl addiction.

Sounds like a fun filled day RI, I wish was embarking on such a journey.

I went today...Marshall Crenshaw was singing and playing acoustic in-store.

StevOK 04.19.2008 04:15 PM

There was a big concert at Good Records because it was also their 8th birthday.

trouble with independent record stores is they don't have any stuff you want. go to a big chain and they have everything. crammed with records and stuff

I usually find just the opposite.
The big chains very rarely have anything outside the mainstream. I do most of my record shopping either online or in independent record shops.

gmku 04.19.2008 06:55 PM

I'd go to mine. But it would cost approximately 5 bucks in gas to get there and back. That's a third of the price of a new LP.

I have a client meeting downtown Monday, though. I'll roll a record store visit into that.

These are considerations.

yep, i totally agree with that and if they dont have it they are quicker to order it in than most chainstores. tower records over here is the exception, they are generally excellent.

Mahjongg live for record store day. Was pretty good. Saw some other band that had David from Slint in it... fuck, I can't remeber the name! They have a release on Quarterstick Records.. it was, like, a metal band! They were pretty good.

uhler 04.20.2008 01:36 PM

i got an out of print slant 6 record in the mail yesterday. then i had to work 14 hours straight, so no record buying.

To me, going to Amoeba while visiting LA is way more important then seeing any of the other touristy shit. Behold the beauty...

Didn't Tomahawk play there once?

Since I live a bus drive away from Amoeba San Fransisco which dominates the record retail business for miles, there wasn't much point to go out. I would have to go to Best Buy in order to support the underdog in such a situation.

Or of course the many small record stores in Amoeba's shadow. But no funds = no funs.

Disgruntled Youth 04.21.2008 03:43 PM

Black Rebel Motorcycle club played for free @ CD Central plus the store was giving away goodie bags with every purchase. The record store I work for wasn't giving away shit then againwe didn't have much business...

Went to cactus records in Houston
Picked up:
Last Time Around by Buffalo Springfield
The Gutter Twins album (the name of which I cannot be asked to spell from memory)
A used copy of Wild Gift by X
And Ragged Glory by Neil Young and Crazy Horse (some good good shit)
