Swans
I 've just bought The great Annihilator by Swans, but I don't know this band very well. Can I have your suggestions ( the best album to start, your favourite's....) ?
PLEASE.:) |
Kill The Child
|
Children Of God is kind of a good all-rounder, showing several sides of Swans, but my alltime favorite is Cop. Very few albums as brutal as that one.
|
Don't ask me, my favorite is white light in the mouth of infinity.
|
'Filth' or 'Cop'

Ok, ok, to sum up, we have : Filth, Cop, Young God, White light, Children of God. Awesome, a lot of albums to buy ! Great !!!
Thank you, everybody, you have my deepest sympathy !!! If you have other suggestions, or clarify your opinions, you can continue posting. Can somebody tell me more about Jarboe ? |
I was strolling around today on a gloriously sunny evening with the Cop album in my headphones, id forgotten how it so often puts a smile on my face when used in the most incongruent context
|
cop is fantastic, filth is fantastic, children of god is fantastic, body to body is fantastic, swans are dead is fantastic.
swans were fantastic. |
my favourites are: Filth, Children Of God, Love Of Life and Soundtracks For the Blind, own them all except Love Of Life

well said, what do you think of angels of light? i dont giras doing anything mind blowing at this point but i definitley found the ablum with akron family interesting. |
man, i cant even imagine how unfuckingbelievable an early sonic youth/swans nyc gig must have been.
i mean, no wave was done, people thought experimental punk music was done for the city. and here were these two bands, tuning their cheap guitars all sorts of wierd fucking ways, turning their amps up to 10 combining the ferocity of the stooges, the experimental improv tendencies of free jazz, and the confrontational aspect of the early new wave bands, and creating the most fascinating guitar based music since, well, no wave. nyc music lived on! |
confrontational aspect of early *no wave bands.
sorry |
Yeah, you 're right. I know they toured together, it would have been... Oh shit, why I was born in 1983 ?

i admit that i only gave the angels of light a chance with you are him and i find that album to be very fucking amazing in that it's almost the exact opposite of filth or cop. |
My favorite is Children of God, but I love them all. World of Skin was pretty cool too. I mostly like them with Jarboe the best, but fully appreciate the early days.
