I Got A Moog Theremin

at my hosue righ tnow. my buddy chris brought it over, and it's pretty damn kool. i've never played w/ one of the old ones, just thouse new ones w/ the one antannea sticking outta the top and that's it. it's fun and all, but fucking hard to actually use in a "song". i looked up some videos of it on youtube and some of those people jesus christ! they make it sound like a violin! so uh, anybody got any pointers on how to put this damn kool instrument to use?

Maybe as a noise intro to one of your songs, similar to what Sonic Youth sometimes do.

forkimified 04.25.2008 02:29 AM

you can make your own soundtracks to old sci fi horror films.

I have a handy little Theremin VST plug-in that does the job well. You can choose the oscillator type too.

theremins are fun. experiment with holding different things and what it does to the sounds produced.

Dead-Air 04.25.2008 09:38 AM

I think to make it sound like a violin you have to first know how to play that sort of instrument, unfortunately. There's more theory to it than people think. It's the whole reason Moog invented the synthesizer - theremins were too damn hard to actaully play.

That said, of course it sounds cool as a noise instrument as everybody is saying here!

I bought one of those many years ago. I really regret it, I wish I'd saved the 400 bucks. I cannot even begin to learn how to play the thing, with video instruction and all

avantgarde1 04.25.2008 07:50 PM

yeah i'd never buy one myself unless i really knew how to play ti first

o'connor 04.25.2008 09:43 PM

o'connor 04.26.2008 04:00 AM
