Books about DC Hardcore/Music
I want to buy "Dances Of Days: Two Decades Of Punk In The Nation's Capital", and I was looking at some other 'punk literature' sites and stuff like AKPRESS, and it got me thinking about the music.
What's your favorite band to come out of that scene? I usually go with Minor Threat/Fugazi, but I'm currently really liking Bad Brains. Or, have you read any books like the one above? Which are the most informative? I know basics, but it's a whole movement I'm really not too knowledgable about. |
i just started get in the van: on the road with black flag. basically henry rollins leaves dc by page two, and i only read it at work on the off moments i have waiting time, so i'm only up to page 6. i'll let you know in about two months when i finish it:) seems fun and has lots of pics.

You NEED the Void/Faith split. The Fait side is good but VOID fucking tear it up. |
My older sister's friend said she would give me her DC hardcore vinyls because she doesn't have a record player anymore.
I want to listen to some DC bands that are similar to Happy Go Licky. They seem to be a very unique band to me. |
Yeah Dance of Days is the best...great photos and mainly written by Mark Anderson who has always been active in the DC scene. Bad Brains and Fugazi are pretty much tied for my favorite DC band. Get it immediately:D

American Hardcore is a good book. Lots of info about tons of bands. Quite entertaining to read how much of an asshole HR from Bad Brains was.
|
Yeah HR was/is a dick.
|
Yeah, the Big Boys' dealings with the Bad Brains is quite entertaining in that book.

Agreed, a friend burnt me the Void side only and it is so really really good. |
My fave DC hardcore band is Soulside, but it's a real shame that they deteriorated so badly after a while of being GVSB.

Can i ask, are you talking about the Michael Azzrand (sp?) book our band could be your life? I cant afford to get that yet, i will do soon cos it sounds great.

![]() http://www.akashicbooks.com/danceofdays.htm This book and Our Band Could Be Your Life are covering slightly different subject matter (DoD being about a particular scene, as oppsoed to OBCBYL being about bands), but personally I think Dance of Days is superior. |
