can anyone help with an internet problem?

I've been having trouble for the last 2 weeks or so with certain websites and webpages. Examples of this are dimeadozen.org, midwest.org.uk, myspleen.net and some pages on ebay, I've tried them in college and they all load up fine there. I've looked this up on google and the only advice i could find was to run "netsh winsock reset" and reset the computer, but that doesnt seem to help.

When i try to look at these pages the little green progress bar moves extremely slowly to the second bar and then i get a "page cannot be found" error message.

I'm on a 2mb connection using ie6

I'm asking here cus i already asked on computer geek forums and no1 replied

Call your provider and if you have a router have them reset it from the other end.

try firefox rather than ie6. ie is a piece of shite browser with backdoors easily open for hackers. try opera, also a good browser. try anything but ie then see your service prov

winsock problems indicate a corruption.. i'd agree with terminal pharmacy, try installing firefox.. simply typing "firefox" on google will set you up..
after you install firefox, you should be surfing those sites without a problem..

always make backups.. sometimes these problems become untreatable, and the only option you'd have then would be wiping the system..

hope that works...

maybe you can run netstat -a in a command prompt box and see if there are any open connections to your PC from outside... If so, try running ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew. If it doesn't work, disconnect, turn off your modem for 10 seconds, turn it back on, reconnect and run ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew... hope that helps...

ii dunno, I don't really like firefox all that much. Thanks alyasa, i'll try that

I think that ie seems super polluted with spyware, ads, popups, etc... and I usually like a really clean browser interference. I use Firefox on both my linux and windows systems.

firefox all the way.

johnnywinternoshow 05.26.2006 02:16 PM

ok, i did all that ipconfig stuff, no luck. D/led firefox and the same sites still don't load. My guess is a virus or something, anyone know if viruses can knock out some pages on ur comp?

I had the same problem once, but I'll be damned if I can remember how I fixed it.

I'm sure that was infinitely helpful.
