Does your dresscode reflect your record collection?
And if not, what records might people think you listen to, just by looking at you?
What an absolutely fascinating question to ask. Even if I do say so myself. |
No.

OK, but the second part of the question is the bit i'm especially proud of: what might people think you listen to, just by looking at the way you dress? |

Sebadoh. |

Haha. I wouldn't think so, but OK. |

Actually, now that I think about it more seriously: Oasis. |

Hmmm, I see what you mean. Maybe. Hahaha. That's funny actually. |
People probably think I listen to Babyshambles and Mark Ronson, I own several items of clothing from Topman and Pop Boutique..

music, i dont fuckin know. maybe the band shirts that i wear would give them an idea. when its cold out, i usually wear my puffy black northface, a hoodie or sweater or flannel underneath it, solid color t shirt underneath that, and jeans curdoroys or carhart. when its chilly out, i wear my cutoff sleeves jean jacket, hoodie underneah that, and maybe my favorite leather jacket over it if its colder than normal, solid tees, and the pants mentioned above. if its nice out, ill wear polos, button down collars short or long sleeve, solid tees, band tees, print tees, whatever tees, and pants. when its HOT out, its cutoff jeans, t shirts like mentioned above or beaters, maybe even gym shorts if i wanna be comfy or goin to the beach or whatever, i never wear bathing suits or board shorts, not even when i surf, i just hate em. other things to note about my choice of dress; i fell into the tight pants fad badly, for a couple years i was wearing tight as fuck, more usually than not ripped pants. i was even rocking ass skin acid wash jeans for a while. then, i put on some weight after i gave up oxys and coke, and my size 30 skin tights pants werent hackin it anymore. and not to mention, i realized the absurdity and non-usefullnes of tight jeans. now, its relaxed, regular, or boot cut pants, yknow, medium big. also, i wear sneakers 90 percent of the time, particularly nike dunks mid and high, vans, addidas campus, and nike air max (chucks look stupid on me). i very rarely wear a pair of boots that i have from when i used to landscape, and a pair of preppy boat shoes. i also like hats, beanies and new era fitteds, and wear em alot. maybe people think of me liking certain music and shit from how i dress, but i sure as fuck dont think about that. but i wont lie, how i dress is moderatley imporant to me. i am one of those that thinks of it as another way of self expression. note: another ridiculously pointless and long response inspired by boredom, please, dont read this. |
Hmm, from that description I'd say you liked most things besides Black Metal, ironically.
|
no to the first question, and normal stuff to the second
|
i have absolutely no idea, since i look different every day... one day i look like some hippie rolled out of a dumpster, the other day i look like a doll. i really don't know.
|
What happens if you meet someone you can pin down to a certain style of music because of their dress code and then they turn out to have boring and unadventurous taste? That's the worst scenario.
|
i have a large record collection that has a lot of variety in it
i have a large wardrobe that has a lot of variety in it |
Hmm, not really, I think, especially considering the amount of metal I listen to. I guess if people look at me whilst not wearing a bnad T-shirt, they'd imagine I'd listen to nonsense like Coldplay.
|
I think mine does. I wear a lot of baggy worn-out jumpers, and corduroy trousers, regardless of how dressy the place i am going to is, which i get stick for from my friends.
|
well i dont look like masami akita or even mark e smith... but i wear converse and have shitty shoulder length hair.. so i suppose people think i listen to razorlight.. but i am 33 years old.. oso maybe rem... but i wear teeshirts a lot so then possibly whatever is on ,my teeshirt.. provided they know what a melt banana or a sonic youth or a battles is.....
dont care, i always find it fun when you speak to someone who you presume has a shitty taste in italian disco pop and it ends up he is a fan of branca or keiji haino..... never judge a book by its cover... unless its cover is totally shite! |
I am stuck with wearing baggy trousers, Etnies shoes, hoodies and oversized T-shirts. Every attempt of mine to get used to a more civilised clothing style was a massive failure - I just don't feel ok in tight jeans or hipster cut shirts.
so, due to this fact, most people probably think I'm into hiphop or Suicidal Tendencies. |
A little story for you now:
A couple of monthes ago I was walking through Wrecelsham in Hampshire, I was wearing my grey converse, black skinny jeans, and a white hoody over a skinny fit Goo t-shirt. Then, a yob/chav/lout driving past me in a red van shouted out the window "Kaiser Cheifs rock!" Now, that may sound bad enough, but this event is tinged with the greatest irony. I was actually walking back from collecting a record from a regular Ebay seller, and was, at that very moment, holding a Residents LP. It's an amusing little anecdote, and I really don't care he thinks I listen to the Kaiser Chiefs, however, if I saw that guy again I would saw his head off with the edge of an Edgar Varese LP. |
^^^I was in Wrecclesham a couple of weeks back - quite a nice part of the world, with some quite bizzare people too.
