aladdin sane survivor, round one

poll coming soon

Funny you pull up this as a thread - I was reading the Lester Bangs book on Thursday lunchtime, and was giggling (again) to Mr Bangs' murdering of D Bowie's "Young Americans" tour - basically calling DB on his warmed-up Al Jolson routines.

Get rid of the crappy R Stones cover. Please!

Pookie 07.06.2008 05:15 PM

Where's the "all of them" option?

Cantankerous 07.07.2008 06:31 PM

how can you vote for let's spend the night together? his version trumps the stones by miles!

Everyneurotic 07.07.2008 06:37 PM

bowie is awful at covering songs.

you're on my "dead to me" list now

no just kidding

but his version of "my death" and "let's spend the night together" are nothing short of brilliant. i don't know that i've ever heard another cover he's done.

Everyneurotic 07.07.2008 06:58 PM

MellySingsDoom 07.07.2008 08:21 PM

Ladies and gents, when it comes to Bowie murdering songs, may I present to you his version of Martha and the Vandella's "Dancing In The Street".

that was mick jagger's fault

okay by me because i can't stand that song to begin with

MellySingsDoom 07.07.2008 08:33 PM

Good Bowie cover - his version of Iggy Pop's "China Girl" - a bit heavy on the 1980's production cheese, but otherwise very nice.

Cantankerous 07.07.2008 08:35 PM

basically all of them except for dancing in the street, which, again, was mostly mick jagger's doing.

Cantankerous 07.07.2008 08:40 PM

terrifying

MellySingsDoom 07.07.2008 08:49 PM

Ewww, look at Mick Jagger's mullet! That's going to replace sarramkrop in my nightmares!

Everyneurotic 07.07.2008 10:03 PM

if you're a slave to glam rock, let's talk about the sweet then.

guitarwolf 07.08.2008 12:32 AM

Bowie has done some awful covers but he has done some amazing ones eg. "Sorrow" off Pinups and "Wild is the Wind" off Station to Station.

Cantankerous 07.08.2008 12:36 AM

i forgot about pin-ups too! i haven't listened to that in ages.
