classic albums, atsonicpark edition # 37: william basinski - the disteingration loops

WILLIAM BASINSKI "tHE DISINTEGRATION LOOPS"
2062, 2002

4-volume set of nasty old tape loops that slowly but surely get.. disintegrated. Beautiful multi layered ambient loops being destroyed and turned into something new. Just the most beautiful, brilliant, and fascinating music that hardly ever changes that I've ever heard.

Obviously the title of this thread is fucked up.

But it's only because I'm fucked up on codeine.

StevOK 07.30.2008 11:06 PM

I've heard of this but didn't download it.

atsonicpark 07.30.2008 11:11 PM

If you're interested in the least in... uh... "ambient"... music, it's essential..

Derek 07.31.2008 05:26 AM

This album is great but my favourite album out of William Basinski's discography is Melancholia.

atsonicpark 07.31.2008 05:37 AM

I really like one I can't recall the name of.. but it's all weird out of tune glassy-sounding piano lines...

atsonicpark 07.31.2008 05:45 AM

AH... it's called variations in chrome primitive haha.

Derek 07.31.2008 05:56 AM

have you heard Melancholia by the way?

very sparse, minimalist piano pieces, very very beautiful.

atsonicpark 07.31.2008 06:26 AM

yeah of course, it's awesome :)

lots of short pieces. makes me see the color gold.

Derek 07.31.2008 06:38 AM

I sort of prefer it when Basinski concentrates on short bursts of music, The Disintegration Loops are great but don't really hold my attention like some of his other stuff.

leakyheadboy 07.31.2008 07:00 AM

anyone got any links? i haven't heard this but im interested...

atsonicpark 07.31.2008 07:17 AM

Can't help ya right now but this blog type thing:

http://wharfinger.extra.hu/?tag=ambient

is where I ORIGINALLY got them from. They've since been deleted, sorry, but there';s a shit load of great stuff over there. Specifically, get the Dead Texan album or anything by Stars of the Lid :)

atsonicpark 07.31.2008 07:21 AM

atsonicpark 07.31.2008 07:32 AM

no problem, you seem really cool, and I always go out of my way on here for the cool people. :)

batreleaser 07.31.2008 07:34 AM

i like the first two way better than the last two. basinski can get really boring but the first disentegration are really excellent.

atsonicpark 07.31.2008 07:37 AM

First time be and my buddy tripped we listened to oval - do while for 8 hours. It was amonst the best experiences of my life.

Second time we tripped we listened to disintegration loops for the first time, and we kept questioning whether the music was changing or if it was our heads fucking with us.

Also, one time I played the game Xenogears for 4 hours straight and listening to the disintegration loops in its entirety during that. (one time I played Disgaea 2 and listened to la monte young's 5-hour "well-tuned piano" as well)

leakyheadboy 07.31.2008 08:21 AM

actually after going through that blog i would like to double my thanks... hella hella thanks astonic

atsonicpark 07.31.2008 08:29 AM
