classic albums, atsonicpark edition # 42: dog faced hermans - hum of life
![]() DOG FACED HERMANS "HUM OF LIFE" 1993, Project A-Bomb Energetic, polyrhythmic, fractured, noisey, creative, jazzy post-punk with surf guitars and trumpets. A good way to describe this would be "The Ex as played by Erase Errata". If that sounds up your alley, get this album. I really love everything this band ever did (and they might have some albums that equal or better this definitely), and it boggles my mind that people constantly overlook this great band. Highly reccomended... download: http://www.eggcityradio.com/sharity/dogfaced.zip (only 45.9mb!) |
aaa yes
The Ex and their side projects are really excellent. The Ex don't get enough props, especially here. Very good, so is Klekta Red. |
Yeah, Kletka Red, I heard this album by them call "hijacking!" I believe. Didn't realize it had anything to do with the ex. Great shit.

You guys are missing out! This is out of print by the way and fetches about $30 used.
Here's a review: This is for fans of the experimental alternative of the early 90's. It has guitar hooks and bass riffs as if they were in the Dead Kennedy's. The drummer has some of the best timing that I've ever heard, while the singer reminds me of a more coherant poly styrin (x-ray spex). The real treat is that there is a trumpet player in the band who wails every time it's heard. Great for a party or a night alone with a 10 strip of acid. That wasn't very good. Trouserpress: With the confident, abrasive tension that from then on defined their sound, the words split the difference between intellectual rigor and stuff that sounds great out loud ("Jan 9," a fantasia about scientific ethics with Andy playing a roaring coda on electric viola, is especially brilliant), and Marion's vocal idiosyncrasies (listen to the way she pulls and snaps on the title of "How We Connect"). They haven't tired of esoteric covers, and essay 8 Eyed Spy's "Love Split With Blood" and Ornette Coleman's "Peace Warriors." |
the name of the band always made me feel awkward (strong resemblance with my last name)

LOVE this album. I'm glad to see one of these classic albums threads in which I actually know of the band and album.

Yeah, haha, I don't have a definitive list for these and I kind of forget about records I really like... so, it's usually, I'll put something on or look through my cd's and find something I think is great.. but in this case, you reminded me how great they are. Good job, sir.
