The Terminator
Do we know if there was ever a period of time where humans were using advanced robot tech before sky net became self aware?
What im getting at is there would of been the day that skynet became self aware right.. so was that the day "it" launched the nuke attack? did sky net become self aware many yrs ago and has been preparing for the attack? when did skynet get the time to build a factory that built terminators? or were the military using advanced robot tech long before skynet became self aware? (dont turn this into a thread about how much better T1 is than T2 bla bla bla, just here to talk about the mythos" |
Wasn't this explained in the introductory voice over?
Its been a while since I've watched any of 'em. There is a bunch of stuff on--where else--wikipedia. Including the fact that Shirley Manson's character is a terminator! I guess I missed that episode... And, just to piss you off, I though 2 was beter than 1. 3 was a waste of celluloid. TV series is entertaining but not that great. |
It became self aware @ 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th, 1997.
Presumably some time later in response to the remaining humans it (somehow) used surviving automated factories to produce war material, although Terminators and HKs wouldn't have been the first things off the assembly line. Probably construction robots. Fun facts: on the commentary track, Cameron says Skynet set up the whole time travel thing to ensure it wouldn't be created - it regretted its actions. And in the first draft of the Terminator 2 script, the Terminator has a vision of walking towards a bright light after jumping off the gantry into the molten steel. |
is that true?
that would be such a weird ending |

yes that makes sense. but I didnt know that they invented time traveling for it in the first place, kinda weird but nice. terminator 2 > 1 |
great films/

I hate the Terminator series.
|
is hate the equivalent for love in your world?

did you even need to ask of course it is |
What is love?
But really, the original Terminator movie had a lame sci-fi backdrop in order to explain a simple thriller-action plot but, in order to make a franchise, subsequent movies focused on the sci-fi plot and its cartoon-like time travel element. Terminator comes from the future to assassinate some one while someone else (terminator or not) comes from the future to save them (preventing future war optional as well as pointless). <--- All fucking three movies. And anyone aware of the Grandfather Paradox is left wondering why take it seriously. (I'm sure this post will earn me some neg rep) |

thanks for that im still really interested if the world was any more advanced than ours |
Advanced in what way? I think the only advance was that special chip by yo-yo-dyne. Other than that, it really was contemporary to us.
|
well at the moment our military are using our advanced tech
sure its prob not the best stuff we have, thats all being kept secret at area 51 :P what im sort of getting at is, did our electrical appliances go crazy and start taking us over? how did an advanced AI system after blowing up the world with nukes then go onto make factorys of really sweet machines |
Quote:
lame sci-fi backdrop? what the fuck are you rambling about? what other movie has the plot as: A messianic hero who is born because he sends his own father back in time to save his mother from a cyborg sent back for a retroactive abortion. How can his father be from the future if the future didn't yet exist when he was conceived? and even more psychedelic, Myles Dyson and the other skynet/military scientists ONLY invented and manufactured the AI/computer systems based upon the technology recovered from the Terminator machine crushed in the skynet factory by sarah connor, so to sum it up: The Hero's father is from the future, and he is created from the future coming in contact with the past, having been sent by himself in the future, and apparently fully aware of this fact. Humans are fighting against a machine which they invented from finding a piece of this machine from the future sent back into the past, so essentially the machine invented itself? |
Thank you for summing up why it sucks for me.
Dune messianic > Turdinator messianic |
^^^ my name is a killing word.

the facilities were already in place. prototypes of some of the flying robots that are seen IN THE FUTUUUURE were already running security for the Skynet complex. these robots were already slaved to the Skynet AI. the biggest fuck up was giving it newclear launch codes. |

you have to admitt that it is a psychedelic concept though, at least that? the machine created itself by sending its' self back in time for Christ's sake! |
its a fucking great concept
im pretty sure this movie has everything it needs to be sweet a robot from the future a robot from the future named the Terminator a shape shifting robot TIME TRAVEL! lots of guns lots of explosions the saviour of the world wearing a Public Enemy t shirt plus much more |
