the JSBX appreciation thread
Nobody ever brings up The Jon Spencer Blues explosion.
I think these three LPs are really good: ![]() ![]() ![]() what do you think? |
i don't think they rule but i also don't think they suck
(i can't see the 3 lp pics) |
worry is an amazing album...
|
i appreciate 'em. listened to orange just yesterday.
|
i hate the blues explosion. i dont understand how someone can go from a band as amazing as pussy galore to lameness like boss hog and the blues explosion.
|
i prefer JSBX to Pussy galore (which i like)
|
no way. pussy galore is one of my favorite bands, just pure sleaze rock n roll from an atonal and nihilistic perspective. not to mention the players involved; spencer, hagerty, cafritz, bob bery, and even tom smith of to live and shave in la was in the band at the height of thier powers. speaking of whom, has anyone heard the casette smith put out detailing a single pussy galore practice session? apparently its to prove the myth that pussy galore was just as volatile in practice as in concert and on record, and its apparently one of the best things they ever recorded.

I loved JSBX circa Orange. It's amazing that someone can devlop from such scuzzy crap as Pussy Galore to something just soooooooooooooooo rockin'.
Boss Hog were also pretty brilliant around the same time. Possibly even more brilliant. |
Plastic Fang was an awesome album too.
|
they used to be good but in recent times they have gone seriously downhill and samey. its a shame really because they could do more interesting things but when you build your ideas on shouting blues explosion 50 times a night then what do you expect?
|
Pussy Galore were ok. Jon Spencer peaked with Orange and it's been downhill since.
But he's still left us with some fine albums. |
I'm significantly more into Pussy Galore, but the Blues Explosion had their moments. At some point even the most dedicated fan must get bored with Spencer repeating shit over and over again though (both from song to song and also in the same song).

Recently I was listening to a recording of the Mark Radcliffe radio show when he had JSBX playing as guests.
The music was great, but they had NO sense of humour whatsoever. Mark & Lard's repeated screams of "FRANK SPENCER'S BLUES EXPLOSION" met with a stony silence... |
