Road Trips
if you were able to take a road trip anywhere, where would you stop at along the way, and finally stop?
i'd want to take my time in georgia because it's pretty, then keep on until i get to nevada, drive all around the desert in and stay in the tiny town of rachel and maybe spy on area 51 (i'm lame). i'd go up to colorado because it's cool, then i'd backtrack, head on down to california, take my time, and end in san francisco. it's either that, drive up to new york city, or, somehow, drop everything and follow sonic youth on their next tour. who would you take? |
Given my last road trip experience, I'm not sure I'm in the right frame of mind to imagine an ideal one.
Four of us drove from Chicago to Yosemite in California, and it wasn't as glamorous as we thought it'd be. For the experience, and to conserve cash, we camped along the way. I was with three guys, and I discovered that they simply did not put a high priority on personal hygiene. When the campsite showers were a bit dodgy, they simply wouldn't shower at all. I can't STAND the feeling of going without a shower, so I made a point of finding a way to bathe as consistently as possible. Boys, in case you were wondering - yes, sometimes, you do smell. Put three unbathed guys in a Volvo in August for 8 hours at a time - not pretty, I assure you. A number of other things went wrong, too many to list (among them having the alternator on the car go out in some shitsplat town in Wyoming, having to entrust its repair to a guy named Burp, who had an outhouse and a pet chicken). It was worth it overall, we saw some amazing sights, but still, one must keep in mind... not all road trips are of the Britney Spears ilk. |
I'd do it like "On the Road". I would stop in each state along the way and just walk. I like walking. I would bring someone who would like to walk and doesnt complain a lot.

i'd love to go on a road trip, i need to leard to drive first though, maybe then i could get a car and go up to the lake district, swim in some lakes.
|
Surely road trips are all about the things that go wrong and the the no doubt cold, harsh fear of being stuck in some redneck backwater with a busted up car whilst the locals eye you suspiciously?
I like the idea of a road trip but being in the UK there isn't as much scope. Driving around Eastern Europe would be pretty sweet. Or just all of Europe. I haven't really thought it through though. |
well i am about to undertake a pretty big one. i have done others, one which was nicknamed the road scurvy tour after it was finished.
after travelling for a while i think a small amount of insanity starts to spread in like laughing at absolutely nothing and thinking about why the hell you wanted to do this in the firat place. |
I'd like to go to Siberia, I think. Vodka and the freezing cold, sounds good to me. See some wildlife and stop at Baikal Lake for a while.
|
I have friends in Chicago and California so I'd probably make the trek out there even though it would be a pain in the ass.
I drive around for fun most of the time anyways. |
i'm going to be forced to make a mini-road trip to guadalajara to see xiu xiu play.
all i know is that i'm going by bus and i would return the next day home. that's all i have planned so far. yeah, i'm also going on my own |

Oddly enough, I do like road trips on my own. Get a good music stock in your car, and it's a blast. And really, they're not bad with friends - I think they just need to have a time limit. How far is it from Chicago to Virginia anyhow? |
due to the chronic transport syetem in britain just a small trip to the coast can turn into a major road trip. make sure you stock up on cigarrettes and blankets if its cold.
