So the Los Angeles mountains are the fucking arctic circle!

and I am trapped down here in sunny Los Angeles, an hour away, in plain sight, mocking me blah blah..

I have never even SEEN the snow before..

EVOLghost 12.18.2008 02:25 PM

Snow is fun. Especially in Chicago....:-D nothin' like shovelin' snow in 12 degree weather!

Alex's Trip 12.18.2008 03:55 PM

It's pretty snowy in the foothills and mountains around here too, but none directly on us.

Kloriel 12.18.2008 07:17 PM

if you haven't seen snow you need to realize your habitat depends on the relocation of native streams.

I am well aware of the water infrastructure of los angeles. the problem is not taking the water, the problem is how los angeles uses the water (40% out of the house), but that is unrelated to the snow fall in the local mountains which creates wonderful scenery.

pbradley 12.18.2008 09:59 PM

It only hails in San Francisco, and rarely.

Kloriel 12.18.2008 10:05 PM

Big deal. The day it snows in Phoenix is the day I start to worry.

It is nothing to worry about, it is NOT snowing in los angeles, it is snowing in the local mountains which dominate the landscape, they normally look like this, I have hiked through all of them, in the summer you have to get up in there and moving before 10AM or it is the fucking gobi desert,

however, in the winter they take on this perspective..

al shabbray 12.19.2008 03:11 PM

how high are these mountains there?

acousticrock87 12.19.2008 04:23 PM

8,000+ feet. I think they get up toward 10,000 some places.

I heard it was snowing down at 3,500 feet a few days ago, though.

the front of the San Gabriels are only 4000-5000, that is where I usually go hiking. They do however climb upwards of 10,000 in the back country, and as they blend into the San Bernardino mountains they average above 10,000 across the range. Most of the snow is in the SB mountaints, though the backsides of the SG are high enough in elevation to maintain snow coverage..

the snow level has been bellow 4000, it was fucking 40 degrees outside here in the Long Beach area this morning!
