New Border Sound and Music From Mexico
In describing his 'New Border Sound', Neil Hagerty talks about a fusion of American Rock and music from Mexico. It's obvious which American Rock he references but he never specifies which Mexican music. Any review I've read just refers to it as 'Mexican', which seems a little vague to me. Anyone have any recommendations for Mexican music that might fit as a potential influence?

This may be a good place to start in your Mex-music searchings: https://www.headheritage.co.uk/headt...ic/24687/flat/
EDIT - Also, here's summat that may be worth downloading: http://american-prayer.blogspot.com/...7-mexican.html EDIT #2 - This may well be of interest too - http://news.newamericamedia.org/news/view_article.html?article_id=94bca50525c1598c9d3c9 5cb51e89b18 EDIT #3 - More stuff - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HT3U9uKcI0I |
Wow, thanks Melly. That link threw up a great site focusing on the whole 'Avandaro' scene. Churning up lots of great stuff that I'd never heard of before. Thanks again.
Some of those other links you added are great but listening to them they seem more like Mexican interpretations of American and British Rock. Hagerty seems more interested in I suppose more (for want of a better word) 'folk' traditions such as 'Norteno' (sp) and 'Banda'. EDIT: Apologies in advance to any Mexican posters here for this post's inevitable misunderstanding of your music. |
