Image DPI help

Alright, Ive got this picture and it says its about 6''X6''. But the person whos going to print it out says it should be about 300 DPI. But When I change the DPI to 300 it shrinks the image print size to about 1.5".

heres a screenshot from the menu

if someone could help explain this I would be quite abliged.:)

I think it's to do with the number of pixels in the image - changing the dpi does not change the total number of individual pixels in the picture as a whole - it merely compresses them into a smaller space.

To do what you want, you may have to print the image, then scan it in at high dpi.

this sucks because I dont have a scanner or a printer.

Maybe you could just try printing it and see if it's satisfactory? Or print it at a number of resolutions and see what's best - does it have to be 6" X 6"?

You may get a better answer than mine, incidentally - I'm not an expert by any means!

In the Future:

Anything for Print: 300 dpi (dpi stands for dots per inch)

For Web: 72dpi

If you don't know how big you need something to be, its always better to work in a bigger size and then resize it.

thanks for advice and help. Unfortinately I don;t have photoshop so my choices are limited.

oone other question.
when I change the print size to 6x6 the screen image size takes up more than 100%. When printed out, how will it look?

with it at its screen size it looks quite blurry, will this change?

heres the image at 300 PDI and 6"x6"

its big so i wont post it.

If you send me the picture, I'll resize it for you chip chop.
Just let me know at what size you want it. No problem.
