I was thinking about starting an opera thread, but then I realised you'd be the only person who was interested.

Anyway. The Tristan chord, eh? It's a monster.

i'm more into this.
amazing film / theme and nice opera singer.
i have always had a soft spot for the Godfather.

and this here "vintage" version circa 1972, somehow makes me think of the Portishead live performance in NYC. Far fetched but hey.

That's awesome. Lately I've been listening to a bunch of bel canto singers.

Paris Opera Time Capsule Opened, 100 year old LP's Unearthed

i took a classical music history class, some of wagner's music impressed me. definitly waaay over the top stuff. prolly wouldnt listen to it on my own time though.

weirdly though, i like a lot of bands described as "operatic". magma is the first of my favorites to come to my mind that has an operainfluence.

atsonicpark 01.20.2009 10:18 PM

My favorite opera is Pistol Opera. Heh.

was listening to callas's Tosca this morning, very beautiful and sad. that caruso clip reminds me of the opening of Fitzcarraldo.

It's not opera, I just couldn't find a more suitable thread to post it on. Anyway, it's great.

machaut is great. we learned rose liz last year along with other stuff of his. his mass isnt as good as his form fixes.

ive really gotten into opera recently.
i watched on dvd all of tristan und isolde last week.
the last ten minutes might be the most gutwrenchingly beautiful music ever.
i talked to one of my professors and he is going to be teaching a Wagner- Ring course next year. i think i will be taking it.

the thing about wagner is that he is on a completely other level than anyone else.
i mean say what you want about the brilliance of verdi and mozarts operas. they are still just operas. Wagner creats alternate realities that have every detailnworked out

long live the gesamptkunstwerk

fugazifan 06.07.2009 01:44 PM

oh yeah and obviously

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to sarramkrop again.

sarramkrop 06.07.2009 02:21 PM

I agree. I've known his music since childhood and always loved it. The one I've posted I hadn't heard before.
