Political Ideologies
[I searched for thread titles with "political" and "politics," and didn't find anything. So if this thread already exists, feel free to link it up and let this one die.]
Like everyone, I'm sure, I have a hard time aligning myself with an ideology because humanity puts cracks in everything. But I was having a hard time even discussing it today without falling into labels. You could get into the same debates as, "Why use genres at all?" but sometimes it's inevitable. Without kicking up too much dust (or kick up as much as you want--I don't care), what are your views? Political, economic, social, civil, whatever. How do you explain yourself? |

Goddamn. I did.

Okay, so I read through the compass thread and, yeah, predictably everyone here is on more-or-less the same page. (Except for the people who scored blue and didn't want to show it.)
I guess it's less productive to discuss politics with like-minded people, but it's frustrating when "socialism" is assumed to be "poorly executed communism," or "libertarianism" is treated like "unmitigated chaos." What do you do with that? |
I'm somehow left-leaning but not in an extreme way. The thing about being well balanced is to always respect the counter-thinker. You do not have to agree with his/her statements but you have to respect him/her. Anyways: http://www.politicalcompass.org/prin...2.00&soc=-5.54

fuck political views.... i am of my own mind and ill vote how i want... in ireland our government is rightly screwing over its electorate and its most vulnerable members.... but no one admits to voting for them!!!!
its a problem i have with political debate... no one is inheritendly wrong (thats not the word i tried to type but anyhoo) no ones opinion is wropng to themselves...... therfore most political discussions end up in arguementative strife......... therefore i will say i vote for my choice all the time... end of story. |

I am liberal in the sense that I support complete equality in society, regardless of race, sexuality, and religion, and I think that these people should be able to go about their lives in a dignified, persecution-free existence.
However, I don't agree with most liberal government decisions in this country- especially regarding criminals, who seem to get the most lenient treatment possible, and are treated with more protection after their conviction than their victims get. FUCK THE POLICE, because they are nowhere near formidable enough in this British society. I agree with war, in certain cases. World War Two was a necessary war. World War One wasn't, and it arguably caused it's sequel. Actually, World War Two is probably the only war I can possibly agree with (so far). Oh, and I want to get my opinion on Hitler out here- he was a total piece of shit when it comes to his horrible segregation and persecution policies, but I admire the 'increase government spending' policy he took in the early 30s which took Germany safely out of the depression. Sort of similar to what FDR was doing at the time. I'm all over the place here, this isn't an economics discussion.. uhh.. but I do think that a capitalist democracy is probably the most efficient way of governing a society. I know the world hasn't seen a true application of communism yet, but I don't really like the sound of it. |
