stem cell research
Is anyone else glad to see this finally get the go ahead it needed? I mean, I never understood the hold up.
I can see where people have a moral dilemma with abortion; I actually have one myself. Even if you are for it, you have to at least admit that you can see how somebody would consider it murder. But stem cells? Why was this a problem with people? I don't mean for this to come off as harsh as it may sound, but they are already dead. I would imagine that the strong religious types would have no problem, because if they believe that a soul has actually left the body and gone on to where ever they believe it is going, of what use is the body? If it were simply a shell, as many of them must believe, then why not use it for good after it has died? Nobody is talking about murder here; it is - and sorry once again if this comes off as cold and emotionless, though I am only speaking as a matter of fact - simply efficient, and it would do a lot of good for a lot of people. |
watchu talking about, willis? the only people you need to argue this with are the superstitious nuts. everyone else is on board with it and has been for long ago.
now pardon me while i go suck the bone marrow of live newborns. i love it when they squeal. |
one of the many NIGHT/DAy differences between having a religious zealot like Bush and a humanist like Obama as Preznit.
|
plus, Obama hjas stopped BUSH's refusal to give humanitarian aid to any medical organizations around the world that in the course of their service may give information to ladies about abortion.
that shit was such BULLSHIT. outright religiousity, especially laughable since abortion is legal in the USA. |
It would help me alot, I could grow my own organs so when they need replacing like the current ones I wouldn't have to have someone elses and the chance of them rejecting.
|
I will grow livers and throw them at people.

When did stem cell research get the go ahead? That would be awesome. It could help my uncle who has parkinsons
|
the notion that stopping something which could quite honestly lead to major breakthroughs in medecine and treatment for major diseases is a fucked up one.
|
People living longer is exactly what we need.

wow this is pretty exciting
if it truelly has been lifted then thats nuts think about what we will see in the next 20 years our children will most likely never die from old age then the worlds leaders sign a contract saying that they will stop any future children from being born so that everyone can live for ever and not get over populated and so then groups of people that want to have kids have to do it in secret and they get hunted down by bad asses |
For the sake of those with Parkinson's etc, I do hope and wish that the lifting of the stem cell ban in the States brings forth some very fruitful results.
As for the morality issue - well, I'm pro-abortion/pro-choice etc, so have zero issues with cells being used in this way. |
Near immortality and contraceptives.
I could live with that. |
i want us to start looking like we came from the set of Total Recall
3 titties!!! |
no more chris martins...
|
this is not about immortality and other such nonsense.
this is about for the first time in human history being able to repair or regrow nerve endings, repairing severed spinal collumns, repairing cirrosis (sp?) from hepatitis patients, maybe fixing congenital birth defects such as blindness, deafness, spina bifida, etc. Bush was a fucking dark ages asshole. already, in one week, President Obama has possibly done more for the betterment of the whole earth than Bush did in his 8 years. -allowing for stem cell research to be funded by federal money. -allowing for federal humanitarian aid to go to ALL medical organizations around the world, not just the "pro life" ones. -designating a chair to actually get the USA involved wit the world in their efforst to curb emissions and fossil fuel burning. shit. the man moves quick! |

people who do not understan the reproductive system, and who stay ignorant due to pressure from their religions, will always fight this. they do not seem to know that up to 1/3 of all pregnancies are self=terminated by the body before 3 months are up, with the fetus being reabsorbed into the mom's body. they do not seem to understand that stem cells are gotten before the tiny embryo develops even a spinal collumn. it is just a blastocyst of cells, from 400 to 8000 cells, round in shape and the size of a tiny grain of sand. they think something with no brain can "feel" superstition. what cn you do? it is comforting to those who feel weak and ineffectual in the face of te grandeur and magnificence of the world around us. |

I wasn't aware of this, even Bush's side of it. That is messed up. I mean, as I have already mentioned, I don't like abortion; it bothers me. But to stop these organizations from doing all of the other things they can do to help people because of this one issue? I don't get that. It's like boycotting Papa John's because they offer anchovies. |
