Goodbye PT Cruisers!

2nd best news I've heard all year.

Chrysler is going to stop making these fuck-ugly gas guzzlers by the end of this summer. I guess it's not that big of a deal but everytime I see one I just can't help admiring how horrifically ugly they are. It's bad enough they have crap safety records and awful gas mileage. They also manage to be the ugliest cars I've ever seen, and their primary drivers are white upper middle class suburban teenage bimbos who love to cruise around in them with their tiny pet dogs. Seems like they started getting popular during the 40 Year Old Virgin, which was basically a commerical for them. What a perfect car to get rid of, Good Riddance. Hopefully Scion next?

ZEROpumpkins 01.27.2009 01:22 AM

Oh good, those were terrible cars.

atsonicpark 01.27.2009 02:54 AM

Outside from driving them from point a to point b, cars and what they look like, what movies they're in, their gas mileage, their safety records, etc has never bothered me in the least.

pbradley 01.27.2009 03:07 AM

I like the look of the PT Cruiser.

davenotdead 01.27.2009 03:17 AM

they are pretty bland to me. its funny how they illicit such strong like/dislike. i don't think they are gas-guzzlers, though. are they? they have really weak engines.

I was with you until "mileage and safety records."

they were popular for a decade before that movie came out. not everything is dependant on mass media brainwashing.

atsonicpark 01.27.2009 10:22 AM

Yeah really. Also, I know it's only the end of January, but this is really good enough news to be the "2nd best news of the year"?

Rob Instigator 01.27.2009 10:40 AM

2nd best news of the year was that I got a RAISE yesterday damnit!

Lurker 01.27.2009 11:52 AM

I actually liked those cars. There quite different form most cars. All cars nowadays seem to be variations of the same thing.

afterthefact 01.27.2009 11:56 AM

Yeah, and remember how everybody started driving VW Beetles because of the movie Superstar!?! (Yeah, you know you are going to watch it now...)

I do think the PT's are ugly. A kind of cool concept, going for that retro look, but very poorly executed.

Magic Wheel Memory 01.27.2009 12:51 PM

I think they look cool. Not sure about mileage and safety record.

king_buzzo 01.27.2009 02:58 PM

Dude nooo. I used to love the purple ones when i was a kid, it looked like such a luxury to me, i dont know.

Sonic Youth 37 01.27.2009 03:49 PM

My high-school Driver's Ed car was a PT Loser...such a fucking piece of shit.

RdTv 01.27.2009 04:18 PM

Fairwell to the Part-Time Cruiser! I don't personally like them at all, but I relate to what afterthefact and nefeli said.

They got a major push in popularity when that movie came out.

DeadDiscoDildo 01.28.2009 03:58 PM

My dad has one and got one when they FIRST came out.

Infact, they had a major push when they FIRST came out....because (even though a horrible attempt) they attempted to give that old timey feeling. Which to my parents generation, reminded them of THEIR parents cars...IE the first c ars they ever drove in.

more of a nostalgia thing than anything else....but I think they're ugly.

Any other mass media brainwashing bs I can defunct for ya?

wait....are you calling my dad a sheep? you wanna fight!

DeadDiscoDildo 01.28.2009 03:59 PM

Also, I think you were affected by mass media brainwashing just for seeing the 40 yr old virgin in general, and thinking that movie had any real affect on society!

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 01.28.2009 03:59 PM

Igziar Ymasagan! (thanks be Unto GOD!)

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 01.28.2009 06:16 PM

My friend has one. I'm pretty sure it's because he's into old cars but couldn't really get his vintage cars to a satisfactory state.
