i just got it in the post and i must say i'm liking what i hear so far?

This album's pretty good. Not really my thing.

Are they around? rumor was they split after that last album and tour... I dunno, Howling Rain is kinda not my thing...

i don't they've officially split...i asked Ben about CoF last year when i saw him as SOOA...he said that Ethan was concentrating on HR for the time being, but that it was more of a hiatus than a kaput. seems all the CoF guys have other projects to keep 'em busy.

I've never heard of them before, at least that I can remember. Good stuff, I like it.

I heard CoF were over. I saw them at fucking Pianos in '03! i think they opened for Sunburned that night...

At risk of sounding like a shill, Scott V, check out the LP on threelobed, its 2 side long jams and they friggin slay, one track is all crazy Mahavishnu, sorta...

i was totally thinking about this album the other day. the comets on fire were great and this album WAS rad. One of those 00s bands who neither totally indulged in the new experimental sounds of the day nor was a total throwback to the past. Just tons of great rock and psych influences thrown into a blender, mixed with two hits of lsd, some deisel fuel, and lots of volume. But of course "Blue Cathedral" would dissapoint and the next one, whatever it was called, made them fade into obscurity.

Is Chasny still in the band?

you're nuts...the 1st two (and yes, i have the original pressings on LP; i'm no bandwagon hopper) are singleminded to a vanishing point, but the last two are leaps and bounds better. obscurity? _Avatar_ rose their profile ten-fold easily.

I'd have to agree with narlus there. Their last two albums are great and brought them a much wider audience for sure. I saw them in 2005, 2007 and 2008 and they played for more people every time.

The stories about them splitting up came in 2007 after their tour ended, but since then they have already done another tour, so I'm not buying any of it. A hiatus maybe (all of them are busy with other things), but surely not a split up.

i liked blue cathedral, the next one was too generic.

i like the idea of that band though, like noise foghat or something. theyre a fun band, dont take themselves too seriously, which today is as admirable as making killer tunes.
