The Dirty Three

Any opinions on this great Australian instrumental band?

Warren Ellis is a legend as far as I'm concerned, either as part of the three or as part of the Bad Seeds.

I borrowed Horse Stories at the library and was disappointed as I found it rather boring actually.

greedrex 03.01.2009 06:03 AM

well it's always the same kind of story every time...
It's hard to tell which is the best one since they all sound the same..

Lamont Cranston 03.01.2009 06:24 AM

kinda pretentious, try The Necks instead

sarramkrop 03.01.2009 06:26 AM

Sometimes great, too often boring. I don't like The Necks either.

EvdWee 03.01.2009 07:31 AM

i want to see them live, how are they?

How is playing for an hour with nothing happening not pretentious? Don't get me wrong, I like both bands, but the Necks are precisely the sort of pretentious bollocks that my mother hates, while she quite likes some Dirty 3.

By the way, read this: http://www.arthurmag.com/2009/01/25/...008/#more-3900

It makes me almost cry how much I love this woman. I want genetics to allow me reproduce creatures with her, without going vaginal.

I think Dirty Three are quite enjoyable when I'm in the mood for them.

atsonicpark 03.01.2009 08:32 AM

They're okay. I'm a dirty boy so you'd think I'd love 'em. But alas.

drrrtyboots 03.01.2009 09:17 AM

I guess i'm the only one here who thinks they're genius. The entire band approaches their istruments in such original ways, their sound is like no one elses.

Fucking annoying, when I saw them. I came to the conclusion they were all high on something, and it wasn't a good something.

As far as Australian instrumental bands go, I prefer Silver Ray.

Kuhb 03.01.2009 07:11 PM

I also like the Cat Power album where Jim and Mick are the backing band.

As for the Dirty Three, I love the idea of a band like that playing around the Melbourne pub scene in the early 90's.

dionysusundone 03.01.2009 10:54 PM

I liked the 'In The Fishtank' they did with Low but their regular stuff's kinda bored me. I've got Ocean Songs someplace, I'll throw it on and give it another go.

SuperCreep 03.01.2009 11:10 PM

I can dig their albums until about halfway through. Then it just sounds really monotonous from there.
