what is the longest you have gone without touching your...............guitar

i picked up the guitar and hooked for the first time in over a month, been since february i think, since i can't remember exactly i know it's been a long time

how long have you gone from playing anything, do you know why?

boredom,
apathy
rest?
aches?

i don't know, but on saturday i used my 4 track for the first time in 3 years

Phlegmscope 04.16.2009 06:51 PM

No idea, maybe a week or two, after deciding to try to get a hold of it. I fuck around daily, but my potential musicianship is proving to be a failure because the more I play, the more I suck.

Right now, it's been 18 days because that's when spring break ended. The longest was about 3 months - from the end of summer to Thanksgiving. The reason for this is I'm at college tryna git smartz... and I had to pack lightly to fly from Maryland to Colorado. So unfortunately, my guitar is not with me here. Only three more weeks and I'll be reunited again!

SuperCreep 04.16.2009 07:38 PM

Oh god, nearly all of Sep. '07 - Oct. '08. I was going through so much crap and I hardly ever played it. When I picked it up again, it was almost like I was playing for the first time, and I've been playing since I was ten. It really bummed me out.

I've been giving it a lot more attention these days, usually about 2-3 hours a day.

previous to this evening, 3 days.

that was horrible but sometimes it's also nice to come back to the instrument after a break - propels ideas.

I used to go a month or so at a time without playing but for the past year or so I always feel nuts going even a day or so.

joe11121 04.16.2009 08:06 PM

About one week. Maybe a little longer.

Death & the Maiden 04.16.2009 08:41 PM

Four days. It was from last Friday until Tuesday. But I suppose tha doesn't really count, since I was still playing my keyboard and my new slide guitar during those four days.

sarramkrop 04.16.2009 09:49 PM

I have played my electric and acoustic guitars last night for the first time since early March.

atsonicpark 04.17.2009 02:14 AM

I play every day. The longest I've went was probably a few weeks, when it was at a friend's house.

Danny Himself 04.17.2009 07:23 AM

I play every day too. More acoustic than electric now, so I don't have to go through the hassle of plugging everything in, amp, effects etc. I'm concentrating on getting my fingerpicking improved lately, too, as well as more complicated chordage that I should get around to teaching myself.

I haven't touched my electric guitar for over a year now. If I ever need any guitar samples (feedback, etc), I just skim through my harddisk where I'd recorded lots of sounds some time ago.

Same with me. I want to be a really good fingerpicker since I can play anything with a pick and I want to further myself.

atsonicpark 04.17.2009 07:57 AM

I've given up on fingerpicking. Everything I played sounded like a shitty Fahey Lite. I'd rather just further develop my own.. uh.. style.

Danny Himself 04.17.2009 08:08 AM

That's fair enough, I mean I'm not particularly good at it either and can't hope to ever be as good as Fahey (ha) but I just like the sound, the intertwining melodies at once..

Well I sound like a shitty Six Organs of Admittance lite because I sing while playing it haha.

Rob Instigator 04.17.2009 10:07 AM

5-7 days

batreleaser 04.17.2009 10:08 AM

i stopped playing from 15 to 17 alltogether, when I started to pick up the sax. I never really got the hang of it though ad went back to guiar, I still go through periods when I get played out on guitar and will mess around with just my contact mic, amps, and pedals. I live in an apartment though and I have gotten to warnings already; one for noise complaint, one for pot smell complaint. Who the fuck would bitch about a pot smell?

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 04.17.2009 10:23 AM

A couple of weeks. Just didn't feel like playing.
