Yr Noise tricks
Share with me your noise tricks.
Are there special technics you use? Any particular pedals?? Tell me everything you know because my tricks(if that's what you can call it) are very lame. |
the combination BOSS OD/2 overdrive-distortion/BOSS DD5 digital delay always comforts me while creating piles of feedback drone.
plus the awesome technique of waving guitar in front of the amp. |
ive thrown my guitar on the floor and ran my foot across it (influence:Steve albini)...and detuned it while holding it upto the amp.......and turn your volume right up.
|
i think i'd been playign my bass for about two months before i spent more time seeing what noises I could make come out of my practice amp.
Early experiments included a $25 distortion pedal and a badmitton racket. It was a lot more fun than reading a learn to play bass book. The other guy in my band makes some really cool noises using just a cheap multi effects pedal, a cheap mixing desk and a guitar. |
delay and feedback + knob turning + octave effects that lead to some rather pleasant drone. i don't really play much anymore, though. i like getting it on through my laptop.
i still play my saxophone through delay, though. |
I have the sweet Danelctro "Reel Echo" tape reel emulator pedal which i can make really cool drones just using a mic. It can make the friction between my nuts and a microphone sound good.
|
i bought a second hand violin bow..
turn the volume up and drone close to the amp.. you can also stick a drumstick beneath the strings to raise them.. bowing that way is easier.. mix and twist all the effects.. add computer generated noise.. play against a backdrop of a television tuned to a talk show.. loop samples from porn flicks.. loop samples from politician speeches.. possibilities are endless... |
I loaded my sampler with snippets of Merzbow/Masonna/K2 outtakes and some home made drones and planning to have a garage noise session tonight. hope it's gonna be a real blast.
wish me luck, we're gonna probably tape the session down ![]() |
take 1 beer bottle... or a glass slide is good also,
add 1 phase shifter pedal add 1 amp turned to 10 let rip |
take one amp, one contact mic and a kitchen utensil of your own choice and bobs yr uncle. word.
|
Thanks guys, I gotta write shit down.
My noise techniques involves the feedback of pedals, superawesome guitar waving in front of an amp and screwdrivers. Some of these are very helpfull thanks! |
I've had loads of fun with a small mobile speaker. I wired this speaker into the back of my amp just by putting the wires into he holes on the back of the speaker (where the wires connect to the speaker) ok anyway...yeah you wire in a little speaker (mine is from a 1971 chevy impala) take this and grind it against your pickups/ strings/ flick switches/ add echo/ wah/ whatever... awesome.
|
I have a broken voice-changing machine. All it does now is buzz in three different ways. I hold it against the pickups and yell into it, and yeah.
Blue Boxes are good too. With anything. |
I also have a hollowbody that makes mad ass feedback.. i like to hold it against the amp and yell into the F holes..
|
wah + dist=mad as fuck feedback, turn other pedals on as well and turn them on and off rapedetaly (spelling?)
some remote control/buttons ect. next to the guitar really weorks when you press the button on my cheapo multi effects if you turn on any kind of dist it makes the pickups sensitive you can sing in them and you hear the sound from the amp enough for now...gotta take a crap |
Try to circut bend something. I haven't ever tried doing it, but it's supposed to be great and really noisey.
|
Sometimes when I'm swinging my guitar around in front of my amp and getting crazy feedback, I bust my car keys out and rake them across the strings which makes all kinds of crazy noises. I also like to bash my old strat against stuff and bang on the neck to get those hollow, ambient kinds of sounds.
|
I only use delay and distortion. The rest is just nails and drills.
EDIT: I also cheat and mix it all up on my computer. |
rub yr electric over you acoustic. basically make a slide out of the acoustic

I've done that before. Sound good, especially with thick strings. |
