Talking Heads - Remain In Light
Very simple, what is your favorite song and why? Poll to follow.
Side one 1) "Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)" – 5:46 2) "Crosseyed and Painless" – 4:45 3) "The Great Curve" – 6:26 Side two 4) "Once in a Lifetime" – 4:19 5) "Houses in Motion" – 4:30 6) "Seen and Not Seen" – 3:20 7) "Listening Wind" – 4:42 8) "The Overload" – 6:00 |
oh jeez. I love all of them a lot, but I'm going to go with The Great Curve - impeccable groove, great Byrne lyrics, all the differing vocal melodies ("she is moving to describe the world" etc., "night has fall now - darker, darker" "divine, to define, she is moving to define, so say so, so say so" "THE WORLD MOVES ON A WOMAN'S HIPS" blahblah), the horns, and of course, Adrian Belew's guitar solo at the end. Probably the most Fela-inspired TH song too. I just love it to death.

Damn. That was exactly what I was going to say. |
Once in a Lifetime, because it's a very strange and fun song. The end.
|
I hate to vote for the big hit, and the whole album is great, but "Once in a Lifetime" is definitely one of the band's finest moments.
|
ONce in a Lifetime is amazing. Love the lyrics. After that it's a tie between Crosseyed and Painless and Houses in Motion
|
Great album. I went with 'The Great Curve'. I love the way all the vocals come together. It's just a really cool, propulsive song.
|
'The Overload' and 'Seen/Not Seen' are my favorites. 'The Overload' won my vote by a slight margin.
The entire second side of this album is gorgeous. |
Long time since I've heard it, but Houses in Motion has stuck in the mind the best.
I prefer Fear of Music though. Now that's a great album. |
Fear of Music is their best, imo.
|
^agreed.
|
CrossEyed and Painless.
I like the riffing and the crankin' Boomp BWAH WAH !!! Lost my shape...trying to act casual !! *Oh and as far as Fear of Music, surely most who love it know Robert Fripp was on it. Then, of course, immediately following we had Adrian Belew on Remain in Light. That really cemented my respect for Talking Heads, my being such a Crimson freak ! |
How is it that I am only the second person to vote for "Born Under Punches"?
It's got to be one of my all-time favorite songs. |
I love Born Under Punches, but the studio version kinda got killed for me when I heard it on The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads.
|
once in a lifetime ( but psycho killer qu'est-ce que c'est? )
|
I went with Born Under Punches because it's such a strong opener.
What's everybody's favorite Talking Heads record? I sway around between a few. ~Jeremy~ |
I'm going with The Overload but it's a really hard question, this is a great album. I like it more than Fear Of Music, personally (but only by a little bit)
|
I picked Born Under Punches because it kicks ass on The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads (which is pretty much the best live album ever, the expanded reissue anyhow).
|
an album that works better than the individual songs.
the whole album from start to finish is the only way to go for me. |
i can only say that i love the 1st half more than the 2nd, but anyway it's great entirely!
