Reena - being a Lesbian? Incinerate - ?? (curious) Do You Believe in Rapture? - Holy war/George Bush 2nd term Sleepin' Around - this one sounds better if you replace the word 'sleepin' with 'driving' or 'bootin' What a Waste - being a whore Jams Run Free - Sonic Youth loves being in a band? Rats - ?? Turqoise boy - ?? The Nuetral - ?? Pink Steam - isn't there a book called pink steam? huh? Or - Sonic Youth loves being on tour? |

Rats is pretty self-explanatory, I think. It's just a sci-fi narrative. Lee likes that stuff. Or is about going on tour in general. The end of the song is stuff Thurston is sick of hearing fans ask him. |
id love to know what Rat's is really about.

"His lyrics for "Rats" dissects a faltering relationship against an apocalyptic vision of New York overrun by a plague of rats."
-Wire Magazine Also, wasn't the girl Kim did that karaoke thing with nicknamed Reena? They have an article on her in Wire, too. |

Everybody's digging up all this sci-fi nonsense on Rats.
It's about killing/ending the love of your life. No more options, nothing more to say. Freeze. You've been tricked into it against your own will. Circumstances have come to be, she called it love too alright, and lead you to believe she'd be your reason why, but now is leaving, she's ratting on you, a cold suicide. Now let me place you in my past, with other precious toys. You could be my open road You could be the reason why You could ease my heavy load But i'm gonna freeze you out now She left you with no other option. It's hurting you bad. This one meant the world to you, and she always will. 'So if you're ever feeling lowdown in the fractured sunshine, I'll help you feel the noise.' Even after ratting on you. Everybody's rats to somebody. |

Incinerate has quite the story behind it. Thurst on explains it in an interview I believe. There was a firealarm that went off that she used as a reason to leave him. You should read up on it; quite interesting. |
I think that Dues has Rats down. "When yr love has died / And you rat on me..." pretty much sums up that whole theme. I wish people would be more creative with they're interpretation of lyrics. Maybe this thread wasn't meant to be seriously. Behhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I just know I'll be listening to Pink Steam the moment I'm yet again crushing hard on someone…

I wonder if this is about Lee knowing something was off between Thurston and Kim. A lot of this album seemed cryptic, but in a way where they're dancing around the truth... |
i doubt it

That last song Thurston sings that sounds like the rapture song is like he's prophecying orders for the ultimate chick band. I don't know man it wasn't their best album but good pop rock. If Thurston's giving orders to some sanctified chick fan then it's only actualized through manifest destiny, tripping out on lyrics and thinking they are about yourself. Good luck mega chick band of the future!

"Or", first half: the prospect of a tour and how it'll turn out, most likely. Second half: the typical damn questions journalists ask a band every fucking time.

Jams Run Free is about the band deciding to play and experience World of Warcraft during the Burning Crusade expansion. Talking about those horrid blood elf females and their skank-dancing. |
