I can't watch movies in theaters anymore.
Fuck dubbing.
Now that I have a semi-decent listening comprehension of English: if I want to see a comedy/funny movie most of the good bits in dialogues will (most certainly) be lost in translation, if I want to see a "serious" movie it's even more annoying coz you basically lose the original performance delivered by the actors. Plus I hate when I (without even trying) can understand what an actor is saying lip-reading and I hear a TOTALLY DIFFERENT AND MOST OF THE TIMES FUCKED UP translation. And different actors are given the same voice (have a look at the list here ). Even if here we have the "best dubbers" in the world (supposedly) it's just a shame imo. I can understand why "old" movies basically needed dubbing, and I kinda "love" some voices given to some classic actors (Al Pacino, De Niro...) but nowadays in such a "globalized" world it's really getting on my nerves. I wish theaters had seats with headphones plugs to get the original audio stream sent directly to my brain. Italian audience is so lame, example: when I went to see "Letters from Iwo Jima" a few guys literally walked away when they realized the movie was subbed and not dubbed. Bottom line: I'm fucked. :( The End of this rant. credits fade to black p.s. this applies to non-english spoken movies too, I'd rather see a subbed movie than a dubbed one. |
I made a thread like this a while ago. I hate going to the movies. I only force myself if it's like "an event" for me. (a series I've loved forever, or a favorite director... or Lindsay Lohan for instance).

Can't speak for anything above this but, I agree with this part. |

I just don't like the fact that I can't pause it to go take a piss and I can't smoke anything. Plus it's too damn expensive. I am happy to wait for the DVD to come out and get for a dollar at the rental box.

haha ahh yes, that would make sense! I was having a ravenous moment!
|
dubbing doesn't bother me. I hate when reading subtitles makes me miss something visual to be honest.

thank gawd that I live in amerikkka!
we don't have to mess with silly stuff like overdubbing, because, as the greatest society on the planet, we make all of the movies that are worthwhile seeing (in our own language!!!!!!!)!!!!! LOL@FOREIGNERS |

"why?" you might ask. because everybody wants to BE us. and by us, I mean, THE U.S.. when's the last time you sat in on a good african movie and thought "yeah, I could get by on a bowl of rice a day"??? LOLOLOL |
it isn't the food portions that seduce us, it's the letterman sweaters
you do still wear those, right? |
I hate watching japanese or chinese kung fu or john woo in dubbed. it sucks ass.
I hate theatres because the crowd never shuts up, people bring kids in to a hard R rated movie and then the kids cry like the pussy soft bitches they are, and I hate the stink that movie theatres get, and they never ever ever cl;ean the upholstery. |
actually it's teenagers that I hate. With their stupid cell phones illuminating the theater and their shitty emo music blaring thru iPod headphones. Dudes! You just paid like $20 to see this movie! Watch it!

kids: pussy soft bitches

There's a wonderful multiplex in my town (clean, great acoustic, wonderful seats, BIG screens), that makes me even more sad... I usually go to the weirdly-scheduled afternoon screenings, no kids or lame crowds.
