Help me decide which performance to go to

I am debating spending a $100 gift card that my work gave each of us for our 5+ years luncheon on either

Itzahk Perlman playing
Berlioz: Overture to Béatrice et Bénédict
Elgar: Enigma Variations
Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto

or the Houston Grand Opera doing Wagner's Lohengrin

I am a huge Perlman fanatic, but I am slso a Wagner fanatic, and this is a tricky choice for me. while the opportunity to see Wagner's opera's staged in Houston does not come too often, especially Lohengrin which I really like, Mr Perlman also very arrely make appearances in Houston, and I fear if I do not see him now he may get sick with post-polio syndrome (which hits all polio sufferers eventually) and may never play here again.

I am leaning towards Perlman, but DAMN. what a dillema.

id definitely say wagner.
berlioz and mendelsson are pretty great, and the enigma variations are an interesting piece, but in my opinion nothing that compares to wagner.

Seconding the Wagner. He doesn't come around very often, and while the Berlioz piece doesn't get that much of an outing, the other two are stock-and-trade for someone like Perlman.

fuck.

I will go see Itzahk Perlman. It is on my bucket list.

Maybe I will snake some tix to the Wagner, cuz I wanna go to that too.
I will have to scrounge some $$$$

I saw Itzahk back in the late 80's the tickets were a gift that my wife received from work. Incredible simply breathtaking. There will be other Opera there is only one Itzahk...

that's what I figured. HGO (Houston Grand Opera) does a Wagner production once every 5 years or so.
Tix for Wagner were starting at $125 though! DAMN

Perlman was $55 a tix. (mezzanine seating.)

here is Perlman doing the 3rd movement from the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto.

Isn't there a band playing in a bar somewhere you can check out instead?

Bands are shit. Perlman shits on every band. Without exception.
