Great musician. Great guitar player. Not as funny as he thought he was. Still good, though. Beefheart (why I'm comparing...?) is much better, though.

I remember hearing that song baby snakes(?) a few years ago and loving it for like a week. That's all I have to say about zappa though.

I d1g the album freak out and the oddness of the music, however the man himself, though very talented, seemed very self absorbed.

i'm a big fan of Zappa. Almost as much as Beefheart. The Mothers albums are the shit.
His solo stuff, at least after hot rats, could be pretty lame. But there are some occasional inspired moments. The Baby Snakes dvd is great. Bruce Bedford's stop motion animation is pretty cool, and even the annoying zappa songs seem somewhat better in the context of the live show. His orchestral stuff is over-rated.
