On U Sound Thread
I don't think we've had a thread for Adrian Sherwood's On U label. A lot of the stuff has dated quite badly now but it's still quite interesting, nonetheless.

Anyway, I was thinking about the label earlier and wondered if anyone else was into them at the time - or maybe even still are. I've never been sure how popular On U were outside of Europe. |
He's Bristolian, no? Never really listened to much of his stuff, but he's fairly well thought of round these parts.

He's actually from London, but it makes total sense that he'd be quite popular in Bristol compared with some other cities in the UK. I'm pretty sure groups like Smith and Mighty, Fresh 4 and More Rockers must've been into him quite a bit.
Mark Stewart did quite a bit of stuff with Sherwood. He's from Bristol, right? Now where did I put that can of Special Brew? |
Ah right. Mark Stewart's definitely a local kiddy - I thought on-U was based out of here? I remember a Brummie dub enthusiast nattering about that in a pub years ago.
I should be some sort of scientist with this peerless deductive reasoning. |
I think he became associated with Bristol largely through Mark Stewart and Gary Clail. Sherwood and On U were actually based just around the corner from where I grew up. Which makes a change from shoe bombers, I suppose.
Speaking of Gary Clail, I used to love this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkzClysDXE8 |
