Icky Thump vs. Sun Ra

I was watching a White Stripes doc last night and noticed that the keys in Icky Thump seem to be influenced by Sun Ra..

Yes/No?

Pookie 03.03.2010 03:27 PM

Never mind that. You were watching a White Stripes documentary!!!???

Derek 03.03.2010 03:33 PM

I agree with Pookie.

atsonicpark 03.03.2010 03:35 PM

I was just talking today about how White stripes are one of the worst bands of all time.

Toilet & Bowels 03.03.2010 04:23 PM

yeah but you like korn and all that shite, not that i'm particularly fond of the white stripes but still.

!@#$%! 03.03.2010 04:31 PM

their version of jolene is pretty good

that one other also rocked in a pop sort of way, when they came out... it was better to hear than in a bar than, say, the dandy warhols

now they sound horrible, like some mike patton project

mr bungle, eat a bag of dikkks

Derek 03.03.2010 04:32 PM

The White Stripes are 100% shit. Not a good idea in that band at all... boring toss I think.

sun ra? wtf?? he must have been rolling in his grave as you wrote those words.

Derek 03.03.2010 04:54 PM

Anyone hear the Beefheart covers The White Stripes done? Shockingly awful.

Keeping It Simple 03.03.2010 04:56 PM

The Black Keys are better.

floatingslowly 03.03.2010 05:11 PM

I still listen to De Stilj from time to time, so you pricks can fuck right off.

automatic bzooty 03.03.2010 06:04 PM

severely doubtin' the sun ra influence. at least not a deliberate one.

i used to love me some stripes. haven't listened to them in a while. de stijl and elephant were/are pretty ace.

And? KoRn are unique. KoRn are talented. KoRn are interesting...

I've never personally met anyone who is passionate about the Stripes. You'll hear people go, "Oh, I like them".. you know, whatever, but I've NEVER heard anyone in my life really get into them... they're just shit.

As for their Beefheart covers, they're fucking terrible. Insulting, even.

ni'k 03.03.2010 06:56 PM

sun ra is the most overrated music ive ever heard.

atsonicpark 03.03.2010 07:43 PM

Sun Ra has some alright stuff but a lot of it is absolute garbage.

wellcharge 03.03.2010 07:50 PM

sun ra is not overrated. he's earned his god status in the avant-jazz scene but will be underrated overall until the jazz mainstream recognizes that he,along with many of his sidemen could play traditional jazz very well, it's an easy thing to aknowledge when there's hours and hours of recorded evidence.

we are currently on the site of a band who has released less good music and more crap than sun ra, and has acheived alot more accolades.

if they put sun ra on the dollar bill he'll be slightly overrated

phoenix 03.03.2010 08:28 PM

it's so easy to be a hater..

RanaldoNecro 03.03.2010 10:49 PM

For some reason I thought that there might have been a Detroit period in his musical life@#??

Lamont Cranston 03.03.2010 10:58 PM

are they still being sued for ripping off Citizen Kane?
