Howling Hex (Nightclub Version of the Eternal)

I noticed the correlation to the new SY album title. Cool.

Pookie 04.21.2010 04:34 PM

When i first read about SY Eternal, I wondered whether it might be a collaboration. That's obviously not true but, thinking about it, the album would've been a sight more interesting had that been the case.

Pookie 04.21.2010 05:18 PM

Smashing dancers. (Three of them anyways.)

demonrail666 04.21.2010 05:22 PM

i was always a bit peeved at Eternal when they got rid of Louise. Pop ethnic cleansing.

They are cracking dancers though. You have to give them that.

Toilet & Bowels 04.22.2010 01:51 AM

it also references the death metal band Hate Eternal

I was thinking she was in All Saints for some reason. But no, you're right. Shame. See, my memory has it that Eternal were a bit on the Brand New Heavies side of the dance thing (ie, not at all).

demonrail666 04.22.2010 04:28 AM

Yeah, christ, the Brand New Heavies. I remember seeing them once (girlfriend thing). I'd never seen so many cunts in one place before. Although never having watched Paul Weller or been a member of the Top Gear audience, my reference points are limited.

Louise was adorable. Eternal were pop Rwanda.

Glice 04.22.2010 04:40 AM

Ah, mid-90s pop. Who remembers this 'classic'?

demonrail666 04.22.2010 06:14 AM

I'll tell you what, no irony whatsoever, East 17s 'Stay Another Day' is easily one of my favourite christmas records ever. One of those almost accidental moments of brilliance, especially the final third when the sleigh bells come in. Magnificent.

Glice 04.22.2010 06:20 AM

Oh, God yeah. That, and this, that'd be a perfect double-A side for your stocking.

noisereductions 04.22.2010 07:03 AM

the episodes of Full House where Uncle Jesse opens a nightclub?

no, because she was white she was the one who got the opportunity of having a solo career

demonrail666 04.22.2010 07:13 AM

i can't deny that. That Eternal's racism was dwarfed by a greater one hardly gets them off the hook, though.

Toilet & Bowels 04.22.2010 08:58 AM

i just read the eternal wikipedia page, they said the record company got louise to sign a solo deal six months before quitting eternal, my guess is that they thought they were wasting the revenue potential of a pretty white girl by making her stand next to black people.

demonrail666 04.22.2010 12:50 PM

In essence, that's similar to the the version i've heard: that their management had always had an eye towards Eternal potentially breaking america as an RnB band and that they included Louise only temporarily in an initial bid to break the UK market. As far as I know, all parties were aware she'd eventually go solo so, while it wasn't underhand, the whole band do seem to have been conceived in accordance with contrasting industry 'requirements'. Either way, I'm sure it happens all the time.
