Sleater-Kinney/Helium Supergroup: Wild Flag
SOUNDS GOOD TO ME
Sleater-Kinney are currently on indefinite hiatus, but now two-thirds of that great punk rock trio are, once again, in a band together. Singer/guitarist Carrie Brownstein and drummer Janet Weiss are members of the new outfit Wild Flag, which also features former Helium leader Mary Timony and the Minders' Rebecca Cole. The band has signed to Merge and are currently recording their first album, with plans to release it next year. They've also got a Facebook page and a few West Coast dates coming up; we've got those listed below. Besides the Sleater-Kinney history, the members of Wild Flag have all sorts of connections. Brownstein and Timony released a great EP as the Spells in 2000, and in 2008, Brownstein released a few more tracks that they recorded during those sessions. Weiss and Cole are both members of the side project the Shadow Mortons. And all the members' previous bands toured together in various configurations. These ladies know each other well. Talking to Pitchfork earlier this year, Brownstein told us that she and Weiss had worked on a film score together, but she also shot down reports that she and Weiss had started a new band together: "Let's not say that there's a new band [laughs]. We'll let you know when there is." And now, hey! Look at that! New band! http://pitchfork.com/news/40144-slea...oup-wild-flag/ |

I can't wait to hear what they sound like, I was just lamenting hoe there wouldnt be another sleater kinney record this week but this makes up for it.
|
just got my tickets for the spaceland. I am ridiculously excited, I was just thinking about how much I missed seeing s-k shows and then I googled searched cuz I remembered Corin had done a solo gig at a record shop a last year, then I saw that Corin Tucker Band was playing! but I couldn't get anyone to roll out there..
this should be a lot of fun! |
I saw them last night and they were ok. The S/K girls should just focus on backing Timony up in my opinion.
It was nice to see Timony smiling and seemingly having fun. That has NEVER happened. |
