sex pistols v the clash
well?
|
Honestly, I'm not a big fan of either.
I'll say Sex Pistols just for the sake of this conversation. Isn't this Non-Sonic Sounds material? Not that it matters. |
i suppose so. i am not a huge fan of either as well but what the hell its better than a load of troll threads.
|
We've got plenty, eh?
I think I'd pick The Homosexuals over both of them in this genre. If they count? |
I like both, although neither of them are regular listens. But I like my favourite Clash songs more than my favourite Sex Pistols songs. I also like bands with a conscience, and bands who are prepared to try out different styles, and with The Clash that means anything from punk to reggae to jazz, and whatever else they fancied at the time.
I recall on Westway to the World Joe Strummer saying that if someone had suggested using a balilaika, the band would have responded by demanding the biggest balilaikas in the world. In both cases I prefer the subsequent projects of members ie Public Image Limited and Big Audio Dynamite. |

Quite the record that would have been! |
For London Calling, the Clash.
|
i'll go with the pistols. they have attitude
|
I'm just listening to Jonesy's Jukebox from Lee & Thurston's appearance & they were talking about Sid Vicious' first show in NYC which Thurston attended & Mick Jones & David Sylvain were on guitar!
As far as The Clash & Sex Pistols. I respect The Clash. The lyrics were ambitious in the political sense, they really were devoted to actually caring & London Calling is a very good record, but you cannot compare The Clash to Sex Pistols because they were one of the best bands ever, one of the finest live acts ever & definitely the best punk rock band ever. |
They're equal to me I guess. I don't listen to either of them very often.
|
Interesting Trvia: when the sex pistols formed, the only song they knew how to play was "i wanna be your dog"
|
On the recent Jonesy's Jukebox appearance, as the segment is wrapping up, Thurston says to Steve Jones, "You've been my favorite guitar player forever."
|
The Sex Pistols were good, but the Clash are amazing, and much more prolific. London Calling is one of my all time favorite albums, as is their self titled album. Give 'em enough rope is also a pretty good album. Sandinista isn't as great as any of those, but I like it because of its experimenting with different styles. Combat Rock wasnt great but not horrible either.
As far as I know, the Sex Pistols only released one real studio album, and while I like it a lot, I dont think it can surpass the greatness of London Calling or The Clash (s/t) |
Nevermind the Bullocks has nothing on any of the Clash albums.
|
They didn't need duration.
Listen to Kill The Hippies from Atlanta & all questions will be anwered. |
Kind of a tuff one since The Clash have so much more material.....I'll say The Clash though.
|
How about Wire could kick both their butts.

Maybe. But Tenpole Tudor would be waiting 'round the corner for them: ![]() |
They look menacing. I'm backing down.
|
That is the ugliest picture I have ever seen.
