the ashes 2010

how enjoyable to watch the result of this and the australians poor performance. still they put up a fight for a bunch of colonists.

Nobody gives a toss about the Ashes despite the media's attempts to big it up. The only interesting thing to come out of it was Horny Warnie's one night stand with Liz Hurley.

yeah but it is wonderful to see that england haven't won the ashes, they have only retained them for the first time in 24 years, there is still one test to go so the poms may wine the series. It really is about time that Australia's dominance in world cricket came to an end, I was getting bored by watching Australia play without any competition.

Glice 12.29.2010 06:17 PM

It was really odd seeing Australia trying to dig in with their middle-order and nightwatchmen from the backfoot - they'll usually stick a good tonne and a half on in that situation after a good first innings, but this time it made you realise that, finally, Australia have a few weaknesses. It's a shame to say that, as this is one of the best performances our boys have put on, and I think this is the best side we've had since (at least) Freddie's golden days... but you wonder if it'd be the same result if Warne was five years younger.

Fair play the lads, looking forward to the next one. Would be nice to cement it properly.

You are right Glice, the top order have been batting like turd, Haddin and Hussey have had to try and save every single innings for Australia. The team lineup isn't bad per se they are just playing really really badly. Noone is really leading the bowling lineup either, although Siddle has been trying. In the end England have a great team and I think they would have beaten us even playing at our best.

Australian cricket was not completely
destroyed in reputation,
unlike some small aussie neighbour
New Zealand, who is having real bad news
with the thrashing by Bangladesh in the
one day series, ...and never recovered reputation since.

I think Aussie could recover from this, someone had to
win.

youve never struck me as a cricket fan Glice, where did all that come from?

It hasnt been the same since it was moved to Sky. the 2005 series on Channel 4 was fantastic not just for the drama etc but the universality of terrestrial telly. The silver lining is ive discovered the charms of Test Match Special which really is as avuncular as everyone says it is.
I have to say i still like Ponting, he's like the angry uncle you try and avoid at Christmas, and Siddle's like his son who's yet to really learn how crushing life can be. Dont get me started on Johnson, he's the Gary Neville of Cricket.

Pretty average series from Australia. I had to endure being at the great MCG when we got bowled out for 98. :(

Hopefully Khwaja plays good on his home ground in his first match and Beer slams the down (pun intened) in his first match and gets some wickets.

Which means then hopefully we can go into the Sydney test and come out with a win an a series draw, which wouldn't look as bad as a series loss considering the "thrashed" us this series.

Glice 01.04.2011 08:43 PM

I'm currently a bit pissed off at Australia operating on stupid time. I think I prefer the tighter games. We're looking pretty good out there, dealing with the new ball nicely, but it's 'all to play for' and that sort of fare. Nice to see Bell doing his thing. Always been one of my favourite batsmen, him.

If you wanted to watch it here in England you had to get up early, while shane warne just got up hurley..

What a boring reply. You don't even know what I've been doing until now. Certainly not watching boring sports.
