The Coachmen new CD out soon

The Coachmen (Thurston's first band) will release a new Cd on Ecstatic peace in a week or two. The all instrumental album is called "American Mercury". I'm not sure about the line up. Does anybody know if T is playing?

could be interesting

guitarwolf 07.29.2006 12:24 PM

That will be interesting, especially if Thurston is in the lineup. Has anyone actually heard or got any recordings of the original Coachmen? I looked to see if there were any around but couldn't find anything.

I have that Failure To Thrive EP. Not sure if it's still available.

If I remember, Thurston only sings on one track?

acousticrock87 07.29.2006 01:23 PM

The Coachmen was a really common band name back then. I assumed it was just a new band keeping up the tradition.

is it any good?

atari 2600 07.30.2006 01:22 AM

yup

CHOUT 07.30.2006 01:40 AM

Yeah, it's cool. Someone else sings on it who sounds a lot like Lou Reed.

acousticrock87 07.30.2006 02:03 AM

Hm. I actually always thought Thurston sounds a lot like Lou Reed.

malefactor 07.30.2006 03:52 AM

check out www.jdkingillustration.com/coachmen.html for the history of the band. turns out American Mercury was recorded in 2000. ever since the coachmen reformed in '97, thurston has not been a part of the lineup

CHOUT 07.30.2006 03:54 AM

Cool, thanks for the link!

Cantankerous 07.30.2006 03:57 AM

oh he was PRETTY.

acousticrock87 07.30.2006 02:39 PM

That's from 1978? His hair was shaved for the EP, I assumed it had always been like that before. He must have been trying to look scene, and then gave up.

That's a nice site. I never could find much information about them.
Looking forward to this new CD, as well.

Wow, Thurston looks stoned. =)

kingcoffee 07.30.2006 05:12 PM

Also, I don't think Thurston sounds like Lou Reed. I don't think I've ever heard anyone sing like Lou Reed. At least not very similar to his voice's intonataions and tone, pitch etc. But the Lou Reed/Velvet Underground influence is so obviously present in his music.

CHOUT 07.30.2006 05:24 PM

Thurston doesn't sing on the ep, I can't remember who does. I'll check later. I love that pic of Thurston.

Oh.. I just assumed 'thurstons song' was written by Thurston. Hah, I've just put it on. It sounds nothing like him.
