Thurston Moore Vs. Steve Albini
"Steve has opinions based on a myopic point of view which of course does not extend to the manufacturers of his pants."

lame response, because as pretentious as Steve can be, his comments on SY were not that off-base |
Don't fall for it...
Pitchfork are just trying to stir shit. |
Fight! Fight! Fight! no... just kidding.
|
Fuck pitchfork! Albini and Moore unite to destroy the hipster factory!!!!

sure that may be correct but its also coming from Albini who is arguably the most opinionated person in the indie rock world. its all opinion and no one is more right or wrong than the next person. so what gives? |
"It seems relevant to note that two of Albini's most notable engineering credits are Nirvana's In Utero and PJ Harvey's Rid of Me-- both of which came out on major labels. "

Lisa Carver: You really never listened to the song? You aren’t interested to know what he thinks of your panties?
Kim Gordon: He mixes the lyrics so low, what’s the point? LOL |

it wasn't that SY was on a major that Albini criticised, it was the way SY went around practically recruiting for Geffen, which I agree, was in rather poor taste, and if SY was sooo cool with a major, why'd they go to Matador, the precise label that Albini suggested they go with in the 90s in the first place? |

i see your point but you don't know how each of the 4 members was feeling or dealing with the situation they were in in circa 1988-89 its well noted how unhappy they were with Homestead and SST and then the way things shook down w/ Enigma/Blast First for Daydream... I guess it was all about timing and w/ DGC it all felt right for them, i have no quams with what they did its not really my problem nor anyone elses to say the least. however the recruitment thing they did in the early 90's was kinda weird but it doesn't bother me, with bands like Cell and Gumball whom didn't really belong on major labels. Albini seems to just loves to say stuff to cause a rouse yet it also seems to conflict with the "ethics" he preaches. |

There are definitely a whole lot of particulars like that to take into consideration. That could be a great level to bring up. I provide the ideas above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions just like the one you carry up where an important factor can be working in trustworthy good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, however I'm certain that your job is clearly recognized as a fair game. Each girls and boys really feel the affect of just a second’s pleasure, for the remainder of their lives.

I know I've read this before, but for some reason I just laughed my ass off reading this again. |
I mean, what are the yrics? I don't recall much happening in that song, it's probably the worst on two nuns and a pack mule... and I've skipped it on every listen of that album in the past 10 years.

Why is that in poor taste? |
Making a living doing something that makes you happy is "sellin' out", I guess?
These issues never really meant anything to me. SY continued to make great music after signing to a major (though I don't like Dirty at all). I mean, an album like 1000 Leaves or NYCG&F on a major... is pretty insane, really. They made a good choice with Geffen, who supported them and promoted them pretty heavily imo. |
Albini still talks like it's 1985.
Majors=BAD!! Indie labels=GOOD!! :rolleyes: |
Fuck that, I want an Albini/Moore fist fight.

this thread still going? kill this shit
