What should I buy?

I'm going to a friend's birthdayparty tonigth, and I have problems finding out what to get him. I have only known him for a month or so, but I have found out that he don't really care for music. I'm short on cash, so I can't really go ahead and get him something ecxpensive. Got any advice? My mind is running slow today.

P.S. He's turning 21, AND is the biggest Harry Potter geek I've ever met.

A bottle of good wine or a DVD?

DemonBox 08.26.2006 04:02 AM

A DVD, that's a good one. I'd get him wine, but I'm not old enough to buy it:p I'll drop by the secondhand store and check out some films. Maybe I'll burn him a copy of Murray Street too, just to see if he likes it.

BOOK TOKEN !!!!!!!!

DemonBox 08.26.2006 04:48 AM

Yeah, books are kinda ecxpensive though, and he loves fantasy, and I don't know anything about fantasy. But he's a commie, maybe I'll find some cool Mao books at the secondhand store.

a picture frame is always another good one. but i think Paulybee is right, a book token is the way to go.

DemonBox 08.26.2006 05:14 AM

He loves Harry Potter? Say no more. I give you Alivan's Magic Wands:

But if you don't want to wait for it to be shipped, go find some sort of twig and stick it in a fancy-looking box.

Or, you could get the 2007 Harry Potter calendar I saw at Borders yesterday. It's really hard to go wrong when you know the guy is really into Harry Potter.

if you've only known him for a month i wouldn't bother buying him a present, unless you're trying to get into his pants. just take a six pack to contribute to the party.

luxinterior 08.26.2006 10:18 AM

Oh! Well then, DemonBox, if T&B is right about your intentions, I should warn you that during the sex, your friend will probably pretend that you're really Alan Rickman in full Severus Snape costume.

Toilet & Bowels 08.26.2006 10:23 AM

is demon box a male or a female?

Everyneurotic 08.26.2006 10:32 AM

give him some spare change for a clue.

i'm with t&b here, you don't know him enough to buy him stuff, just go and if people are pitching in for booze or food or whatever, offer to go to the store and get him something extra from there, if you really feel like giving him something.

Inhuman 08.26.2006 10:37 AM

If you don't have a lot of money, you can always make him a bong or something. Just use a funnell and some jumbo straws.

DemonBox 08.27.2006 11:34 AM

Thank for your advices. First of all, I'm a male, and I have no interest in having sex with the guy. I bougth him a book, Jens Bjørneboe "Sharks", it's one of my favorites. I got it rather cheap at a secondhand store, and he seemed to appriciate my gift. I did bring a bottle of Upper Ten whisky, so people were wasted and happy, and the party was not over till' 7AM.
