Os Mutantes
I didn't see a thread dedicated to them. I thought that was bullshit.
So here is one. Who digs them? I've recently became enamored with them, Ive heard a few songs in the past, but just got their debut on vinyl and it's killing me how good it is. Better than velvet underground? Maybe. |

i prefer the following:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBLbU...eature=related |
that's a good one too
but the one i posted is more on the sad side, which i prefer and has better lyrics or maybe it's because i know this woman turned out to be the most annoying person |

Damn, thanks. I have yet to hear this one. |

i like them generally, but i think it's just a bit too psych rock for me to enjoy fully, but overall, still very much rockin
|
well
they were acid taking people in the 60's what would you expect? |
well i mean i generally DISLIKE music by acid taking people from the 60s
os mutantes i LIKE so it's impressive by 60s acid people standards so basically it's a style i don't generally like but some songs are awesome...like desculpe, baby |
The only people I'd like to hear psych rock from are random obscure bands from California in the 60s, and then Syd Barret, Brian Wilson, Beatles, and Os Mutantes.
Because those bands had specific sounds being the roots and tree stump, if you will, and the psych components were like leaves on the tree. I hate psych jam bands like grateful dead and phish because there's so much noodling... |
oh shit knox, didn't realize you were from their hometown!
|
This is one band I've never invested much time in, I'm sorry to say. I've followed most of the big pre-pre-alternative bands like Can, Neu, Beefheart, and of course the Velvets, but I don't think I am too into this band.
I think it's probably an effect of my middle class white American upbringing... but I just don't enjoy the sound of the Spanish language when put to music. French, definitely. German, sure. Icelandic/Norwegian, most definitely. But I simply don't enjoy the sound of the vocals here. The music is quite good, but I find the vocals halting and interrupting. Great name though. |
doesn't a middle class white upbringing generally give enough education to know that this isn't in spanish?
|
love em'. their first 4 albums are great.
they were a band that really transcended their influences to make some an original sound |
if anyone uses what.cd
there's a compilation on freeleech right now with os mutantes on it, and other things. so leech it http://what.cd/torrents.php?id=96256 ![]() |

They are from Brazil, it's portuguese. You can't enjoy songs like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEpSF...eature=related or more traditional brazilian where the vocals should work in the context of this style... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOKlD3TVVGs |
whoa!!! nerds
this is supposed to be a rock'n'roll site, but i feel like i'm in geography class! mixed with spanish class! highschool sucked bros cut dat shit out there's a reason i didn't go into college! |

Brazil? Hmm. This probably makes me a massive racist bigot in some way, but that somehow makes them more appealing. Sorry. That was lame. I've always really liked their music, but like I said, the lyrics and flow of the vocals are halting and disruptive to my senses, so I never get through a full song, much less an album. I'm down to try, though. Keep posting stuff and I'll keep listening, thoug I've got a couple of their LPs already. I haven't listened to them much, but I'm open to it. |
Then I guess you don't listen to too much punk rock or Mark E Smith, the essence of that style is that it goes against the flow of the music.
Stammer punk? Stutter punk? haha |
