Cats. But that's only a marginal choice. Animals generally do my nut. Apart from Ferrets. Nasty little buggers they are, and all the better for it.

I have had both, and adore both. I like the aloofness and affection of cats, as well as their ability to take care of themselves. Both my cats died last year and I still haven't gotten over it. My dog is a total sweetheart though, and I feel like raising her was an extremely valuable experience. She's getting pretty old now too, but still as great as ever.
Dogs are way grosser than cats though, and require about eight thousand times more attention. Deep down I might be more of a cat person (mostly due to time considerations), but I have loved both equally.

dogs are always happy (except the angry killer ones gangster wannabe youth walk round with to look hard), they stick their heads out of car windows and love it, they love sleeping and rolling in pooh, they bring you tennis balls, leads etc when they want to play. There is nothing not brilliant about dogs (im talking of course about the cute domesiticated variety).

Dogs are the best. Cats are not so great.
